Things candidates need to note when applying for university admission

After the Ministry of Education and Training announced the high school graduation exam scores, from today (July 18), candidates can start registering their university admission wishes for 2024 on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system. To register their university admission wishes correctly and have the highest "pass" rate, Director of the Center for Communication and Admissions, Hanoi Open University Do Ngoc Anh gives 3 pieces of advice:

Firstly , candidates need to understand the principles when registering for admission. Specifically, all wishes must be registered on the General Admission System of the Ministry of Education and Training. In particular, wishes that have been registered for early admission at schools after having the "pass" result must also be registered on this System.

Wishes will be considered from top to bottom, so the wish to study more will be given priority; and so on in order until all wishes are gone.

When the first wish is accepted, the following wishes will be eliminated. In case the candidate does not meet the first wish, the second wish will be considered, if the second wish is not met, the third wish will be considered... and so on until the list of wishes is completed.

Second , candidates need to understand the timelines and principles of each stage so as not to miss any opportunities. From July 18 to 5:00 p.m. on July 30, register, adjust and add admission wishes. At this stage, there is no limit to the number of times you can change your choice, but each time you do it, you need to complete the registration process. If you skip the process, the system will not update your registration information. You need to research carefully to "finalize" your wishes within this time period because you will not be able to change your choices later.

From July 31 to 5:00 p.m. on August 6 is the time to pay the online application fee. Candidates need to pay special attention, if you do not perform this step or perform but do not pay the full fee (pay in one time), the system will not accept the registration of your wishes. In previous years, there were candidates who forgot to perform this step.

Third , candidates should pay attention to their wishes to have the highest "pass" rate. Specifically, candidates should list the list of universities that recruit students for the major they have chosen, along with the benchmark scores of the last 2 to 3 years. You can choose from 6 to 10 majors equivalent to 6 to 10 wishes and divide this list into 3 groups:

Group 1 has the average benchmark score of recent years 1 to 3 points higher than the high school graduation exam score. Group 2 has the average benchmark score of recent years and the high school graduation exam score similar (maybe 1 point more or less). Group 3 has the average benchmark score of recent years 1 to 3 points lower than the high school graduation exam score. When choosing a wish, candidates should note that each group divided above must have at least 1 wish selected. Then, arrange the wishes in order of decreasing priority based on personal preference and suitability.

Director of the Center for Communication and Admissions, Hanoi Open University Do Ngoc Anh noted that candidates should choose schools and majors based on a number of criteria: quality has been assessed; tuition fees are suitable for family conditions; there are many scholarships to strive for study; there is a high rate of students having jobs after graduation; there are many training majors so that they can study for 2 degrees in parallel to increase the opportunity to have a good job after graduation.

Meanwhile, Vice Principal of Phenikaa University Nguyen Phu Khanh said: Universities have announced the qualifying scores for early admission. However, many candidates still think they are officially admitted, but in fact, this is only conditional admission. Specifically, they still lack the criteria for high school graduation and have not registered on the system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Therefore, candidates must wait for the high school graduation results and register their first round of admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's system from July 18 to 5:00 p.m. on July 30, 2024. For wishes that have met the early admission conditions according to the announcement of the schools, candidates are not required to set it as their first wish.

In case the candidate places early admission as the first choice on the system, he/she will definitely be admitted (at the same time, he/she must ensure the conditions for recognition of high school graduation). However, if the candidate places early admission as the nth choice, even if the above choices fail, when considering this choice, he/she will still be admitted.
