Vietnam and China signed a Protocol, paving the way for products such as chili, passion fruit, raw bird's nest, clean bird's nest, and rice bran to be exported to the billion-people market.

On the occasion of the State visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam on April 14-15, the leaders of the two countries issued a Joint Statement.

According to the Joint Statement, the two sides signed a Protocol on export products from Vietnam to China such as chili, passion fruit, raw bird's nest, clean bird's nest, and rice bran.

In addition to the above items, China is actively implementing official licensing procedures for Vietnamese agricultural products such as citrus fruits and oriental medicinal herbs of plant origin. In return, Vietnam will speed up the import of sturgeon from China.

The two sides are also accelerating the construction of smart border gates at customs clearance points and dedicated routes for transporting goods at the Huu Nghi (Vietnam) - Huu Nghi Quan (China) international border gate. At the same time, this model will be considered for replication at other qualified border gates, including the Mong Cai - Dong Hung border gate. "Soft connections" on smart customs will be upgraded.

China is willing to facilitate the early establishment of more Vietnam Trade Promotion Offices in Haikou (Hainan) and other relevant localities. The two sides will coordinate to improve customs clearance efficiency at border gates, openings, and border market pairs, reducing customs clearance pressure.

Currently, 14 types of Vietnamese agricultural products have been officially exported to neighboring countries, bringing in billions of dollars in revenue each year. Last year, Chinese consumers spent 4.6 billion dollars on Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. In 11 months alone, durian topped the list with more than 2.84 billion dollars, dragon fruit about 320 million dollars, bananas 220 million dollars, and jackfruit 240 million dollars.

These documents are expected to help boost agricultural exports to China. Previously, fruit and vegetable exports to China also increased sharply thanks to the two countries' participation in bilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), such as the ASEAN-China Agreement, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement, and the Protocols signed between the two countries.

Vietnam has a great geographical advantage with more than 1,450 km of border (road and waterway) with its neighbor. In addition, China has many large wholesale markets located close to the northern border, several hundred kilometers from Vietnam's agricultural growing areas. Thanks to that, logistics costs are low, transportation times are fast and more competitive than other countries.

Also according to the Joint Statement,   The two sides pledged to pay attention to trade and investment restrictions and affirmed to maintain an open, transparent and inclusive multilateral trade regime. Non-discrimination with the World Trade Organization (WTO) is the core and fundamental rule.

At the same time, all parties promote economic globalization to develop in an open, inclusive direction, bringing common benefits, balance, and win-win.

Vietnam and China will jointly implement the International Economic and Trade Cooperation Framework Initiative on Digital Economy and Green Development, RCEP, and welcome the application to join RCEP by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China).

Vietnam supports China's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) on the basis of compliance with the standards and procedures of the Agreement.

In addition to trade, the two countries agreed to accelerate strategic development connectivity, prioritizing infrastructure connectivity in railways, highways, and border gate infrastructure.

The Vietnam-China Joint Committee on Railway Cooperation implements the Agreement between the two Governments on cooperation in implementing standard gauge railway projects connecting Vietnam and China, increasing cross-border standard gauge railway connections. China is willing to study cooperation in technology and human resource training with Vietnam.

Regarding aviation, Vietnam and China will create conditions for extending and adding take-off and landing times for airlines of the two countries to exploit each other's markets, and encourage airlines to restore and open more flights. Vietnamese aviation companies are welcomed to operate Chinese commercial aircraft, increasing cooperation in the field of commercial aircraft produced by this country.
