Quang Nam Graduated from university and had stable jobs, but three girls aged 23-25 decided to give up to fulfill their dream of joining the army.

Nguyen Thi Thien Huong, 25 years old, from Que Phu commune, Que Son district, Quang Nam, is one of four young women recruited for military service in 2024 in the province. The joy of leaving for military service on February 25 is even more meaningful because this is Huong's childhood dream, to continue the family tradition of many people serving in the military.

Born into a family with a deceased father, a mother who was a merchant, and a brother who was a businessman, Huong soon nurtured the will to wear a soldier's uniform. In 2017, after graduating from high school, Huong took the exam to enter the military school but failed. Undaunted, she studied at the University of Finance and Marketing, Ho Chi Minh City and continued to study to take the exam to enter the Academy of Military Science (Hanoi) in 2018. However, at that time, Huong was 0.125 points short of her wish.

After graduating from the University of Finance and Marketing, Huong worked as a bank employee in Ho Chi Minh City, then moved to Da Nang to work as a financial officer for a foreign company to be closer to home. Thinking that she had missed her dream, at the end of 2023, when Quang Nam had a quota for recruiting female soldiers, Huong immediately wrote a volunteer application. "After many failures, I was very worried when I submitted my application. The day I received the decision to join the army, I was so happy I wanted to cry," Huong shared.

She believes that the military environment is a place to train courage, discipline and has many challenges. However, with the determination and will of youth, she believes that she will complete all assigned tasks. "I will try my best to stay with the army for a long time, no matter what field I am assigned to, I am ready to respond and complete the task well," Huong said.

About 20 km from Thien Huong's house, Ho Thi Thanh Hang, 23 years old, Que Minh commune, Que Son district, is also eager to join the army. She said she is very proud to be in the same ranks as her father - a military doctor.

Having nurtured the dream of wearing a soldier's uniform since she was a child, after graduating from high school in 2019, Hang took the entrance exam to a military school but failed. Like Thien Huong, Hang studied Tourism and Hotel Management at Duy Tan University (Da Nang) and studied to continue taking the entrance exam to a military school. However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hang could not fulfill her dream.

Graduating from university in July 2023, Hang works at a hotel with a salary of nearly 8 million VND per month. Life is stable, but Hang still dreams of wearing a soldier's uniform. She happily wrote a volunteer application when she learned that this year's military recruitment had a quota for women. "After many days of waiting, I was overwhelmed with happiness when I received the acceptance letter," Hang shared.

She is confident that she will complete her assigned tasks well in the military environment when her father inspires her, shares with her, encourages her spirit, and always reminds and teaches her about the rules and regulations. Hang said she will try her best to train to become a good soldier, worthy of the family tradition.

Tran Thi Trang, 24 years old, from Tien Ky town, Tien Phuoc district, graduated from Tourism and Hotel Management, Duy Tan University (Da Nang) in 2021. She has a stable job as an advertising and communications staff for a business, with a monthly income of nearly 10 million VND, but when she heard that the province would recruit female citizens to join the army, she wrote a volunteer application.

"My family are all traders, no one is in the military. However, I always love and want to become a soldier because the military is a place to train me, discipline and order, helping me to become more mature," Trang shared.

Although Trang knows that the military environment will be full of challenges, especially for a girl, she is not worried. She believes that she has enough health and spirit to overcome all difficulties and contribute her youth to the Fatherland.

According to regulations, female citizens of military service age in peacetime, if they volunteer and the army has a need, can serve in the army. Female citizens registering for military service must be 18 years of age or older, and have a profession or professional qualification that meets the army's requirements.

In 2024, the selection and call-up of citizens for military service (military recruitment) will be carried out in one batch. The military handover and reception period will last for 3 days, from February 25 to February 27. In Quang Nam, the military handover and reception ceremony will take place at 6:00 a.m. on February 25 in 18 districts and cities. The total number of citizens enlisted in the province is 2,554, including 2,550 men and 4 women.
