Bustling import and export through border gates with China

Import and export through Lao Cai border gate is stable and smooth.

According to information from the Lao Cai Provincial Economic Zone Management Board, since the beginning of the year, import and export activities of goods and entry and exit of tourists through Lao Cai's border gate with China have been stable and smooth, even during the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday, the National Day holiday on September 2, and even when the weather was unfavorable. On average, nearly 600 import and export vehicles pass through Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II every day. The main export goods are peeled wood, dried cassava, fresh fruits such as dragon fruit, rambutan, fresh bananas and durian; the main import goods are agricultural products, coke, fertilizers, vegetables, chemicals, and equipment.

By the end of September 2024, import-export turnover through the border gate is estimated to reach 2.4 billion USD, an increase of 110% over the same period in 2023, equivalent to 53.3% of the plan assigned by the province, reaching nearly 70% of the plan assigned by the central government (the province's plan is 4.5 billion USD).

Despite some days of disruption due to floods and rains from the historic storm last September, right after resuming operations, Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II always has 400-500 cargo vehicles cleared each day. At Lao Cai International Railway Border Gate, customs clearance activities are maintained with 4-6 inbound and outbound trains per day.

To achieve the target of import-export turnover value, from now until the end of the year, Lao Cai province directs functional sectors to continue to innovate, promote comprehensive digital transformation in operations at the Border Gate Economic Zone, thereby improving customs clearance efficiency and transparency in administrative procedures, attracting import-export enterprises through border gates in the province.

Import and export through Lang Son border gate increased

In Lang Son, according to the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone, in recent times, to develop the border gate economy in the area, tasks and solutions on border gate economic development have been focused on effective and synchronous implementation, creating a driving force to promote economic growth.

In particular, solutions have been actively implemented such as: Focusing on speeding up the progress of establishing and completing plans for border economic zones; increasing exchanges with China to promote import and export activities.

Accordingly, in the first 9 months of 2024, Vietnamese authorities discussed and agreed with the Chinese side to implement 16 times of increasing customs clearance time by 2 hours/day to serve import and export.

Thanks to that, in the first 9 months of the year, the border gate economy of Lang Son province has had positive developments, import and export activities have remained stable at 5 border gates and 2 dedicated roads, customs clearance with high efficiency (average of about 1,300 vehicles/day, peak up to nearly 1,500 vehicles/day).

Specifically, the total import-export turnover of all types of goods through the province reached 46,362.2 million USD, up 29.5% over the same period. Only the turnover of goods declared at Lang Son Customs Department reached 4,005 million USD, up 10.4% over the same period in 2023.

Of which, exports were 1,874.1 million USD, down 8.5% over the same period; imports were 2,130.8 million USD, up 34.9% over the same period in 2023. Notably, local exports were estimated at 122 million USD, equal to 72.2% of the plan, up 2.5% over the same period in 2023.

Quang Ninh: Promoting border economic cooperation with Chinese localities

In Quang Ninh, according to information from the Mong Cai International Border Gate Management Board, from the beginning of the year to September 30, there were 1,312,760 tons of imported and exported goods through border gates and openings in Mong Cai city, an increase of 11.4% over the same period in 2023.

At Bac Luan II bridge border gate, there were 65,970 vehicles carrying 961,635 tons of import and export goods through the border gate (of which, imports reached 690,297 tons, exports 271,338 tons), an increase of 88% in the number of vehicles and an increase of 67.6% in goods compared to the same period in 2023. On average, there were 253 vehicles/day and 3,684 tons of import and export goods/day.

At the Km 3+4 Hai Yen opening, due to many changes in the Chinese border trade policy, in 9 months, there were 19,601 vehicles carrying 330,709 tons of export goods, an average of 78 vehicles/day and 1,312 tons/day, down 42.8% over the same period in 2023. Of which, fruits were 95,448 tons, cassava flour was 24,870 tons, frozen seafood was 163,132 tons, dried seeds and other goods were 18,638 tons; shrimp, crab, live fish were 28,621 tons. Regarding imported goods, there were 6,758 Chinese vehicles transporting 20,416 tons of miscellaneous goods, textiles and garments, down 25% over the same period in 2023.

Total import-export turnover of goods as of September 28 reached more than 2.976 billion USD, up 21% over the same period in 2023, of which export turnover reached more than 1.901 billion USD, import turnover reached more than 1.080 billion USD. State budget revenue from import-export activities reached more than 1,753 billion VND, up 49% over the same period in 2023.

To increase trade relations, especially border gate economy, from September 22-26, the delegation of Mong Cai city government and business representatives went to Nanning - Guangxi, China to attend the 2nd China-ASEAN Roundtable Conference on sharing the "Two-country, two-sided" project and industrial cooperation in 2024.

Immediately after the conference, the delegation of Mong Cai city government and enterprises together with the delegation of Dongxing city government and enterprises will carry out trade promotion activities in the East China region (Eastern China) from September 23 to 26, 2024; then, conduct surveys in some provinces and cities in southern Vietnam in mid-October 2024 so that both sides can prepare carefully for the 2024 China-Vietnam International Trade and Tourism Fair, scheduled to be held in November 2024 in Dongxing city. The fair is a major trade promotion event, expected to continue to make important contributions to two-way trade between the two countries in the coming time.
