According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in August, the situation of seafood exploitation began to be bustling, with offshore fishing boats actively fishing at sea. Aquatic resources appeared in abundance, so most fishing activities were effective.
Fishing grounds are mainly concentrated in the sea area south of Phu Quy Island, Con Son, DK-1 rig, Truong Sa archipelago. The output of exploited aquatic products in the month reached more than 20,500 tons, up 1% over the same period last year, of which marine exploitation accounted for the majority. Accumulated output in the first 8 months of 2023 reached more than 153,000 tons, up 1.7% over the same period last year (of which marine exploitation is estimated at 152,656.2 tons, up 1.8%).
In addition, the protection of aquatic resources was organized by the authorities to patrol and control at peak times. At fishing ports, inspections and controls were organized to prevent and combat IUU fishing (illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing). During the month, 52 decisions were issued with a total fine of 601 million VND for the following violations: Possession of electric shock devices, use of unregistered fishing vessels, failure to re-register fishing vessels, fishing not in accordance with the fishing license, failure to notify or incomplete notification of information as prescribed to the fishing port management organization before leaving or entering the fishing port as prescribed, captains without certificates as prescribed... Since the beginning of 2023, 197 decisions have been issued with a total fine of 2.1 billion VND.
