Understanding the psychology of tourists often traveling in large numbers after the first day of Tet, many households in Phu Yen posted on social networks to rent out their houses so that families and small groups of tourists can rent short-term accommodation.
On social networking sites, there are a series of posts by Phu Yen residents renting out houses for Tet. Ms. Le Thuan Thanh (42 years old, Tuy Hoa City) said: "The rental price is 300,000 VND per day, a 4-level house with a mezzanine floor, kitchen, toilet and bathroom.
Because we stayed at my parents' house for the Tet holidays, the house was empty and we rented it out to guests. Like last year, on the 2nd and 3rd day of Tet, tourists coming to Tuy Hoa city could not find rooms because they were fully booked. Many people had to drive to the outskirts of Dong Hoa town and Tuy An district to rent."
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tri (53 years old, Tuy Hoa City) said that he has rearranged the bedroom and cooking area for tenants. He and his children have also posted on Facebook for people to know about renting, because the house is located right in the city center so they can take advantage of it.
"The whole family only lives on the ground floor, the first and second floors are empty so they are rented out. During Tet, there are a lot of long-distance passengers, but there are few hotels in the city center, and prices are high during Tet, so we open for rent these days. Hours are flexible, and guests can cook at home," said Mr. Tri.
A representative of Apec Mandala Phu Yen Hotel said that this year's Lunar New Year, the number of guests booking rooms reached about 30%, the main source of guests is still domestic guests traveling in family groups, including guests from the South and Central Highlands. However, the number of guests traveling close to the date is expected to continue to increase, especially on the 2nd and 3rd day of Tet.
Mr. Vo Quang Hoang - general manager of Tui Blue Tuy Hoa hotel - said that during the Lunar New Year, the number of guests booking rooms at the hotel accounted for about 40%. Currently, the hotel is expecting the number of guests coming close to Tet.
"In Phu Yen, the number of visitors often increases from the 2nd to the 4th day of Tet, due to the number of visitors traveling from the North to the South via National Highway 1 and visitors from the Central Highlands choosing Phu Yen as a place to visit and stop.
This source of guests only contacts to book rooms upon arrival, not in advance. Not to mention the number of hotel rooms in Phu Yen is quite small, so when the number of guests suddenly increases, there is often a situation of room shortage like in the past 1-2 years," said Mr. Hoang.
According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Yen, as of August 2024, the whole province has 440 tourist accommodation establishments; including 1 5-star hotel, 1 4-star hotel, 5 3-star hotels, 4 2-star hotels, the rest are 1-star hotels, hotels, motels and homestays that meet the minimum conditions for tourist accommodation business. The total number of tourist accommodation rooms is currently more than 7,700 rooms.
Meanwhile, during the 2024 Lunar New Year (from the 1st to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year), the total number of guests staying in the province is estimated to reach 59,500. The average room occupancy rate is over 60%, with large-scale hotels reaching 90-100%.
