(NLDO) - In the first days of the year of the Snake, every day tens of thousands of people eagerly go to Ong Hoang Muoi Temple to pray for peace and prosperity.
From January 29 (the first day of the Lunar New Year) to February 1 (the fourth day of the Lunar New Year), on average, tens of thousands of people and tourists from all over the country come to Ong Hoang Muoi Temple in Hung Thinh Commune, Hung Nguyen District, Nghe An Province every day to offer incense and make offerings.
According to folklore, Mr. Hoang Muoi is a legendary figure who was sent to earth to help people. Nghe An people also pass down legends about the origin, life, and career of Mr. Hoang Muoi with real figures in Vietnamese history.
According to folk beliefs, Mr. Hoang Muoi was the son of King Cha Bat Hai Dong Dinh, who was a celestial official in the Imperial Court, a god in the Peach Blossom Spring. Following the order of the Heavenly Court, he descended to earth to help the people and the country. According to the story in Ha Tinh region, Mr. Hoang Muoi was Le Khoi, a talented general, nephew and follower of Le Loi in the ten-year resistance war against the Ming army.
According to another legend, he descended to earth and became Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang, son of King Ly Thai To, ruling Nghe An province. In addition to worshiping Hoang Muoi, the temple also worships the gods of fortune: Le Khoi, Duke Trinh Trung, Song Dong Ngoc Nu and the system of the Four Palaces of Mother Goddess religion, headed by Holy Mother Lieu Hanh.
For many years, Ong Hoang Muoi Temple has been a spiritual destination for tens of thousands of people in the country during the Lunar New Year. Ms. Tran Thi Ha, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: "Ong Hoang Muoi Temple is very sacred. Every year, on the occasion of Lunar New Year, my whole family comes here to burn incense and pray for a new year of peace, luck and happiness."
