The number of people applying for passports online has increased sharply at the beginning of the year.

In previous years, on the first day of the new year, many citizens gathered and lined up at the Immigration Department of the Provincial Police to apply for passports and travel documents. This year, the number of people has decreased significantly. Instead, the number of people applying for passports online has increased significantly.

On the third working day of the new year of Giap Thin, February 19, at the Immigration Department of the Provincial Police, although there were still many people lining up to wait for passports and travel documents, many of them chose to do the procedures online after reading the specific instructions posted on the spot.

Mr. Tu Cong Hung, from Huong Hoa district, said that due to the need to go abroad, right after Tet, he took the initiative to complete the passport procedures early. When he came back here to complete the procedures, he learned that there was an online procedure, so he followed the instructions to do it himself, reducing the waiting time to do it directly.

In fact, many people who perform online passport renewal procedures for the first time also encounter many difficulties related to the process on mobile phone and computer software. Therefore, the Immigration Department has carried out regular and continuous propaganda work throughout the year. At the same time, it has coordinated with police units of wards, communes, towns, and provincial post offices at locations where procedures are carried out with local people to guide people to perform operations to ensure the correct order and necessary procedures.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Doan Thi Hong Chau, Head of the Vietnamese Citizens Exit and Entry Management Team, Immigration Management Department, from February 15-17, 2024, 187 people registered for passport procedures, of which 177 applied online, and 37 people registered for travel documents.

On the morning of February 19, according to the reporter's records, there were nearly 100 people coming to make passports and travel documents, mainly to get advice and guidance on how to support the application for a regular passport without an electronic chip on the online public service portal. After being guided by police officers on the steps to declare online, citizens performed the operation themselves and realized the practicality and convenience of this online public service.

Compared to the direct method, the procedures for issuing and renewing passports online are faster and more convenient. After about 10 - 15 days, the passport from the Immigration Department will be sent directly to the address registered by the citizen.

To help citizens save time and money without having to go directly to the immigration office to queue up to submit declarations and take photos, the Immigration Management Department, Quang Tri Provincial Police encourages citizens to apply for passports through the National Public Service Portal.

For some citizens who are not eligible to apply for a passport on the National Public Service Portal, such as children's applications, applications for people who have not been granted a citizen identification card... the current procedures for registration, receipt, and processing of passport applications will still apply.

It is known that right before the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin - 2024, the Provincial Police have planned and promoted propaganda through mass media about the benefits of making passports online on the National Public Service Portal.

With its core role, the Immigration Department has proactively prepared means and equipment, maximized its sense of responsibility, and focused on human resources to best serve the needs and answer all questions of the people.
