(Dan Tri) - On the morning of February 19, although the weather in Yen Tu (Quang Ninh) was not good, with rain, fog and strong winds, many people still came here to worship and pray to Buddha.
On the morning of February 19 (January 10, the year of the Dragon), the opening ceremony of Yen Tu Spring Festival 2024 took place at Yen Tu historical site (Quang Ninh).
Attending the opening ceremony were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President, President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Cao Tuong Huy, Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Quang Ninh Provincial Buddhist Sangha. In the photo, delegates perform the welcoming ceremony to open the Yen Tu festival. The Yen Tu spring festival is held on the 10th of January every year. This is one of the largest and longest festivals in the Northern region, attracting tens of thousands of monks, nuns, Buddhists and tourists to the sacred Buddhist land to worship and enjoy the scenery.
Mr. Cao Tuong Huy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province (left cover) and Most Venerable Thich Thanh Quyet, Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Executive Board of the Quang Ninh Buddhist Sangha, beat the drum and rang the bell to open the festival. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, and delegates performed the Yen Tu sacred seal ceremony.
This year, the traditional Yen Tu Spring Festival opening ceremony was organized in a solemn, safe, healthy and economical manner, imbued with the national cultural identity. In addition to the solemn ceremony, this year's Yen Tu Spring Festival has special cultural activities such as: Lantern Festival Night, praying for national peace and prosperity; art performances, dragon and lion dances, traditional martial arts;... On the opening day of the festival, there were many monks, nuns, Buddhists, people and tourists making pilgrimages to Yen Tu.
This morning, the weather in Yen Tu is rainy and foggy. In particular, at the top of Dong Pagoda (Yen Tu), there is strong wind, tourists and Buddhists have to hold on to the railing to climb up to worship the sacred pagoda. According to the Yen Tu National Forest and Relic Management Board, this morning alone, about 4,000 tourists came to Yen Tu to worship and sightsee. Previously, during the 9 days of Tet, Yen Tu Relic Site welcomed nearly 138,000 visitors to visit and worship Buddha, an increase of 19% compared to the same period in 2023.
