Van Don fishermen go out to sea to welcome the "sea fortune" at the beginning of the year

After the joyful days of Spring, celebrating the Lunar New Year with their families, Van Don fishermen are rushing to the sea to welcome the "sea fortune" of the new year. At Cai Rong fishing port, fishing boats line up to go out to sea, carrying the hope of a new year with favorable weather, full holds of shrimp and fish, and safe return to shore.

Fishing boats are busy preparing to set sail for the first trip of the year.

Van Don district currently has a total of 1,335 fishing vessels, of which 75 are under provincial management; 878 are under district management. Annual exploitation output always meets and exceeds the plan assigned by the province. In 2024, despite many difficulties due to natural disasters, the total aquatic product output of the district still reached over 79,700 tons, of which the exploited aquatic product output alone was 17,824 tons. The field of exploitation, aquaculture, processing and export of aquatic products has brought high economic efficiency, creating good jobs and income for people in the district.

For fishermen, the first sea trip of the year is truly meaningful, both preserving the traditional profession of their ancestors, promptly exploiting and developing the marine economy, and contributing to maintaining the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

Farmers start the first shipments of the year.

Mr. Chau Van Thang, village 14, Ha Long commune shared: "My family raises aquatic products such as: oysters, clams, groupers, red snappers... in Ban Sen commune, Van Don district. After the Tet holidays, on the morning of the second day of Tet, my family went to the marine farming area to start the first shipment. Aquatic products harvested in the first days of the year are very easy to sell due to high demand and higher prices than usual. Therefore, we believe and expect that this year will be a favorable year, the lives of fishermen will be more prosperous".

Mr. Chu Minh Dung, Director of Cai Rong Fishing Port Management Board said: “To facilitate fishermen in the first days of the year, Cai Rong Fishing Port Management Board arranges timely anchorage for fishing boats to enter and exit the port, to have a place to load and unload goods and seafood in time, and at the same time coordinates with businesses to provide full and timely logistics services for fishing boats to set sail on the first voyage of the new year”.

Seafood trading activities of traders have become bustling again at Cai Rong port area.

According to Mr. Chu Minh Dung, right from the first days of the year, fishermen have started to go to sea with excitement. Hopefully, with the first trips to sea full of sea luck of the year, it will be the motivation, the premise for fishermen to have a year of good fishing season, good prices; thereby bringing a more prosperous and comfortable life to fishermen.

In the first days of the new year, Cai Rong Fishing Port is bustling with boats coming and going, buyers and sellers, the atmosphere is bustling and exciting. The first trip out to sea is of great significance to fishermen, an optimistic start to a year at sea, hoping for a full hold of shrimp and fish, a prosperous life, contributing to protecting the sovereignty of the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland.
