In recent years, football and major sporting events have received more attention in the US. Major tournaments such as Copa America 2024, Club World Cup 2025, World Cup 2026 and Olympics 2028 will all be held in the US.
In a recent interview with The Times, the head of the 2028 Olympic Organizing Committee, Casey Wasserman, confirmed that some Premier League matches could soon return to the United States.
Wasserman: "Just like the NFL has done a great job of taking their games overseas, I think you'll see European professional soccer games being played in America.
If you watch a Manchester United-Chelsea match in New York, or Real Madrid-Barcelona in Miami, the impact of the real games will be huge in American cities. I think it will happen soon."
In recent seasons, many European giants have chosen to travel to the US for pre-season tours, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Barca, Real Madrid and AC Milan. Several European Super Cup matches have also been held abroad over the years.
However, the fact that official matches of Europe's top national championships, including the Premier League, are held outside the country has not happened in recent years.
