Unique pedestrian bridge with design inspired by water coconut leaves, main span in the form of an arch suspended by Wing cables. This project is not only a new architectural symbol of Ho Chi Minh City but also opens up a unique connection, entertainment and discovery.
The Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just announced the conclusion of Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong on the progress of projects expected to start and be completed on April 30. Accordingly, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee agreed on the starting date for the construction of the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River on March 29.

City leaders approved the policy of using part of Bach Dang Wharf Park (District 1) and the riverside park in Thu Thiem New Urban Area (Thu Duc City) for construction purposes, with the requirement of minimizing the occupied area.
District 1 People's Committee, Thu Duc City People's Committee and Thu Thiem Urban Development Area Management Board are assigned to coordinate and hand over the site to the investor to implement construction in accordance with regulations.
Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company (sponsor) is responsible for receiving and managing the construction site, returning the affected technical infrastructure during the construction process and handing it over to the city after the project is completed.

The City People's Committee assigned the Department of Transport to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Planning and Investment and related units to propose an investment plan for the roof and lighting system for the pedestrian bridge, expected to be completed in February 2025.
At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City will establish a Working Group to implement the project of building a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River, with Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport Tran Quang Lam as the head of the group.
The pedestrian bridge project across the Saigon River is sponsored by Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company with a total cost of about 1,000 billion VND. The bridge is designed in the image of a water coconut leaf, a typical symbol of the South.

The bridge is about 261m long, the main span of the cable-stayed arch is about 187m long, steel girder. The cross section of the main bridge has a width varying from 7-11m. The distance from the highest water level to the bridge underpass (navigable clearance) is 10m.
The approach bridge and ramp on the District 1 side is about 285m long, 6m wide, the ramp bridge span is made of reinforced concrete beams.
On the Thu Duc City side, the approach bridge and ramp have two branches, branch 1 is about 290m long, 6m wide, steel beam. Branch 2 is about 165m long, 6m wide, steel beam combined with reinforced concrete beam.
Technical infrastructure includes traffic lighting and drainage systems on the bridge. In addition, there are structures, elevator equipment and other utility functions.

The bridge is designed with a separate lane for bicycles and can withstand the load of an ambulance of up to 3 tons. On both sides of the bridge are pedestrian lanes for visitors, taking pictures and resting. Between the bicycle lane and the pedestrian lane is a soft median strip that can be flexibly removed to change functions, serving the organization of community events.
The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2027.
The pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River, in addition to its goal of connecting traffic, also aims to become a new architectural symbol of Ho Chi Minh City, bringing the value of connecting the two historical and cultural spaces of District 1 and Thu Duc City. In particular, it creates a public space that is friendly, safe, convenient, and attracts people to visit.
Previously, Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company proposed to start construction of the pedestrian bridge on March 29, one month earlier than planned. The reason is because this is a dedicated bridge, showing the gratitude of the enterprise to the people of Ho Chi Minh City, so it wants to quickly implement it, shorten the completion time to serve the people soon.
