The play Ngan Nam Tinh Su (author Nguyen Quang Lap) was staged by IDECAF about ten years ago, now adapted into Cai Luong by author Pham Van Dang, and directed by Vu Hung - it is his graduation report from the Faculty of Directing at the University of Theater and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City. In the future, the play may be performed for ticket sales because it features famous artists such as: Meritorious Artist Le Trung Thao (as Ly Thuong Kiet), Meritorious Artist Tu Suong (as Thuan Khanh), Chi Bao (Grand Tutor Ly Dao Thanh), Hoai Thanh (Princess Y Lan), Le Trinh (Empress Thuong Duong)...

The audience was surprised because with a compact duration of only 2.5 hours, the play fully and concisely conveyed the necessary content, while nowadays many plays and reformed operas last 3 hours or more. Ly Thuong Kiet's life spanned from his youth with the ambition to serve the country, to when he became a person trusted by the Grand Tutor and the King; then the deep-seated civil war, and the invasion of the Song army... swept him away until his hair turned white. His fate was tied to the fate of the country, leaving behind a heroic epic by the Nhu Nguyet River and the immortal poem " Nam quoc son ha Nam de cu ...". But interspersed in that great heroic epic was an unfinished love song with Thuan Khanh, the loneliness of no longer having a biological family, so that at the end of his life he bitterly exclaimed: "I have won so many battles, but in the end I still lost to myself", making the audience shed tears...

Vu Hung has a very clear directing style. The special scenes such as the fight against Tong and the reunion with Thuan Khanh all leave a beautiful impression. The cast from main to supporting actors, including soldiers, more than 50 people are very professional. Cai Luong appears luxurious and rich in aesthetics. The play deserves to be brought to schools to become an attractive and touching history lesson and to foster a love of Cai Luong for the young generation.
