Russia and the US prepare to hold a bilateral summit

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, after a phone call on February 12 between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, the two countries' foreign ministers agreed to maintain a communication channel to resolve problems in Russia-US relations in order to remove unilateral barriers to mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two sides.

The two leaders expressed their commitment to joint cooperation on current international issues, including resolving the situation in Ukraine, the situation surrounding Palestine and the Middle East in general, as well as in other regions.

The two ministers discussed measures to promptly end the policy initiated by the Obama Administration in 2016 of maximally tightening the conditions for the activities of Russian diplomatic missions in the United States, including retaliatory measures.

The two ministers supported holding an expert-level meeting in the near future to agree on specific steps to jointly overcome barriers that hinder the activities of Russian and US diplomatic missions.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his US counterpart Marco Rubio affirmed their readiness to cooperate to restore inter-state dialogue in the spirit of mutual respect in accordance with the spirit agreed by the two presidents. In addition, the two sides agreed to maintain regular contacts, including preparations for the Russia-US Summit.

Previously, on February 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump had a phone call to discuss prospects for resolving the Ukraine issue.

According to the Kremlin, President Donald Trump declared his support for a quick end to hostilities and a peaceful resolution of the issue.

For his part, President Putin mentioned the need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and agreed with Mr. Trump that a lasting solution could be achieved through peace negotiations.

Writing on the social network Truth Social, which he founded, the leader of the "Land of the Stars and Stripes" said that Moscow and Washington will immediately begin negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
