Russia seizes NATO's most modern tank artillery shells in Ukraine

According to the Military Informant military Telegram channel, Russian soldiers have seized the latest DM63A1 sub-caliber tank shells from the ammunition depot of Leopard 2A6 tanks provided by NATO to Ukraine.

Military Informant has published a photo of the most modern Western-made armor-piercing fin-stabilized projectile (APFSDS) on the Ukrainian frontline. Along with that, the Russian side also captured American M1028 tank artillery shells, designed to destroy unarmored personnel and vehicles with tungsten cluster munitions.

The DM63A1 tungsten-cored round is designed to destroy armored vehicles at a distance of up to 4 km. Developed in 2014, it can be used on tanks equipped with the L44 (5.2 m long) and L55 (6.6 m) 120 mm smoothbore guns.

In early February 2025, the state corporation Rostec called the T-90M Proryv the smartest tank in the world. The vehicle is equipped with a modern fire control system, allowing it to effectively engage various targets in complex combat environments.

US upgrades M-SHORAD multi-purpose short-range air defense system

The US Army plans to modernize its mobile short-range air defense system (M-SHORAD) based on experience from the Ukrainian battlefield. The information has been confirmed by Army Recognition.

According to a report released by the US Congress in January 2025, the US Army plans to adapt and improve the M-SHORAD system based on valuable lessons learned from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

It should be noted that the widespread use of drones in modern warfare has highlighted the need to modernize existing air defense systems. The US Army wants to improve the effectiveness of M-SHORAD as an anti-drone weapon. In particular, the Army is interested in effective protection against popular cruise missiles.

The M-SHORAD system on the chassis of a Stryker armored personnel carrier carries a combat module with a 30mm automatic cannon, a machine gun, as well as Stinger missiles and Longbow Hellfire anti-tank missiles. The new version of the system will be equipped with a 50-kilowatt laser system to reduce the cost of intercepting air targets. In addition, the current M-SHORAD upgrade will replace the Hellfire missile launcher with additional Stinger missiles.

In October 2024, the US introduced the Counter-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System (C-UAS DE) on the chassis of a Stryker armored vehicle. The vehicle is equipped with a 26-kilowatt BlueHalo Locust laser system, a 30-mm XM914 automatic cannon, and a 70-mm APKWS II laser-guided missile.

Kalashnikov to showcase mobile air defense system at IDEX 2025

Kalashnikov will present the Krona-E short-range air defense missile system for the first time at the IDEX 2025 international exhibition, scheduled to take place from February 17 to 21 in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

The new air defense system is designed to protect important facilities from air attacks. Krona's main target is medium-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles. This air defense vehicle is developed on the chassis of a wheeled armored personnel carrier.

Krona-E is a complex of mobile, controlled and automated combat vehicles or fixed combat modules equipped with weapons, combined into a single system. Kalashnikov informs: "The air defense system uses 9M340 and 9M333 guided anti-aircraft missile ammunition."

In December 2024, a Russian air defense officer revealed that the Krona-E system on the Tigr armored vehicle chassis is capable of detecting targets at a distance of up to 40 km. This air defense missile system is equipped with Verba air defense missiles and thermal imaging equipment, allowing it to operate day and night.
