Hats off to Vietnamese female players

What made the Asian Football Confederation, the media and fans take their hats off in admiration was probably not the number of goals scored by the two teams, but the spirit of not giving up of the Vietnamese women's players in a match where they were "suspended" by their opponents with 3 goals after the first half ended, trailing 2-4 after 74 minutes of play, and finally completed a rare spectacular comeback amid the excitement of the audience.

It was a historic victory for Vietnamese women's football at the club level. Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club won the right to enter the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League 2024/2025 and their opponent was Wuhan Jiangda Club (China). This is a very strong opponent from the top women's football in the continent, having defeated a top Japanese football club in the quarter-finals.

The Chinese team is of a higher level, physically fit and in better shape, but the Vietnamese women can enter the semi-final (taking place next May) with a certain confidence. Confidence, not only because of the result from the brave comeback against Abu Dhabi Country but also because of the way this team won.

Before the above quarter-final match, fans were interested in the fact that Ho Chi Minh City Women's Football Club signed contracts with 2 foreign players from the US and 2 overseas Vietnamese players, believing that foreign players are an important factor to help the Vietnamese women's team not be "overwhelmed" when competing with the top women's teams in the continent from Japan, China, Australia...

However, the comeback was achieved with great contributions from domestic players: The opening goal for the comeback was by K'Thua - a player from Co Ho; a goal from a well-prepared header by Chuong Thi Kieu and two goals from wonderful long-range shots by Bao Chau, Hong Nhung...

The foreign players did not play badly, especially Chelsea Le, but the fact that the domestic players absolutely owned the number of goals scored by the team gave great hope that the "small and light" players would be more confident when facing opponents with strong, modern playing styles based on superior physical strength and physique.

That is perhaps the most remarkable thing about the above victory.
