NDO - On November 19, at the Central Lung Hospital, the Department of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases - Hanoi Medical University celebrated its 65th anniversary, marking an important milestone marking the proud development of the department, and at the same time launched a set of postgraduate teaching materials specializing in tuberculosis and lung disease.


Dr. Dinh Van Luong, Senior Physician, Director of the Central Lung Hospital, Head of the Department of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, Hanoi Medical University, said that over the past 65 years, the department has continuously grown and developed to achieve the successes it has today.

Over the past 65 years, the Department of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, Hanoi Medical University has always set the mission of training a team of doctors and physicians with professional competence in the field of Tuberculosis and lung diseases, contributing to the training of specialized medical personnel to protect the lung health of the people. These achievements are not only a source of pride for generations of cadres and lecturers but also a testament to the solidarity, attachment and dedication of generations between the department and the Central Lung Hospital.

In training, the department has contributed to training tens of thousands of general students, 790 Specialists I, II, Masters and Doctors of Medicine. Has trained 790 level I specialists. Has trained 73 level II specialists (trained 73 Masters of Medicine. Trained 75 resident doctors. Has guided and successfully defended 24 Doctoral theses in medicine.

Many of the department's alumni now hold important leadership positions in hospitals and medical facilities across the country, directly contributing to the improvement of public health quality.

In 2023, the department successfully built a doctoral training program and 5 training programs according to the school's new framework.

In scientific research and document compilation, the department has chaired, participated in, and cooperated in many scientific research topics at all levels, published in prestigious international medical journals in the fields of tuberculosis and lung diseases.

The research of the department always ensures timeliness, scientific value and high practical significance, contributing significantly to the prevention of tuberculosis and lung health in the community. The department focuses on developing specialized textbooks and documents, serving training from basic to advanced, coordinating with the National Tuberculosis Control Program to participate in developing national guidelines for tuberculosis management, updated annually.

In particular, in 2024, Professor, Dr. Tran Van Sang; Dr. Dinh Van Luong co-edited, together with a team of teachers and experts of the Hospital, successfully compiled and reviewed postgraduate teaching materials specializing in tuberculosis and lung diseases with updated and in-depth knowledge in the field.

It is the crystallization of responsibility, dedication, effort, and organic combination of staff, guest lecturers, doctors, and experts of the hospital.

"These are highly specialized, up-to-date, and practical documents in the fields of pulmonary and tuberculosis. We believe that these documents not only contribute to the treasure trove of specialized knowledge but also serve as textbooks for study, research, and training, and in-depth professional development for students at medical training institutions, specialized and general hospitals nationwide," Dr. Luong shared.

With its long-standing achievements and contributions, the department was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal in 2014 and continued to be awarded the Second Class Labor Medal in 2019.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, highly appreciated the contributions, companionship and dedication of the collective of teachers and staff of the Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Department; who have trained many generations of doctors for the industry. Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu expressed his gratitude to the generations of teachers who have made the school's teaching career.

The Principal of Hanoi Medical University stated that the Central Lung Hospital is a practice facility that has close ties with the school in traditional and historical training and creates many values.

"Mr. Dinh Van Luong, the hospital director and head of the Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Department, has been very responsible in training, creating great value for the health sector, creating generations of doctors in public health care," Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu expressed.

The President of Hanoi Medical University also highly appreciated the set of postgraduate teaching materials specializing in tuberculosis and lung diseases as a great work because of the volume and depth of the set of materials that not every subject has.

To improve the quality of care for tuberculosis and lung diseases, Dr. Dinh Van Luong said that in the coming time, the department will continue to update the curriculum, add advanced and specialized courses, apply them to practical needs and improve the quality of training in the field of tuberculosis and lung diseases.

The department will develop capacity according to the key directions of the Central Lung Hospital such as lung transplantation, stem cells, artificial intelligence... continuously standardizing, perfecting, improving, updating pedagogical skills, catching up with training development trends utilizing technologies such as; e-learning, online training, digital databases, artificial intelligence; orienting the development of in-depth research on pulmonary diseases other than tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases...
