Ha Noi Kien, a 7th grade student at Dai Dong Secondary School, was beaten many times by 8 classmates and had to be hospitalized due to psychological trauma.
On the evening of October 25, a video of a male student being beaten by a group of men in Hanoi went viral on online forums. In the video, the victim is seen crouched in a corner of the hallway, being punched and kicked in the head and stomach by five other male students. The student who was beaten did not fight back, only cried and held his head.
Responding to VnExpress , Mr. Do Cong Duc, Principal of Dai Dong Secondary School, Thach That District, said the incident in the video happened in mid-June, at the Dong Cau Village Cultural House when the students were on summer vacation. Kien, the victim, and the male students appearing in the video are all 7th graders at the school.
"I just learned about this video and don't dare watch it again. It's very heartbreaking," said Mr. Duc.

According to Mr. Duc, this was not the first time Kien had been beaten. In mid-September, Dai Dong Secondary School discovered that this group of male students had similar behavior towards Kien right at school.
Kien then had to undergo psychological trauma treatment for 10 days, often showing signs of confusion and lack of concentration. He returned to school in mid-October but was mentally unstable. The group of eight boys who beat up their friend were suspended from Dai Dong Secondary School for four days, from October 20-24, according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Mr. Duc said Kien was smaller than his peers and came from a poor family. The principal commented that Kien was obedient, a bit quiet and shy, while the students who beat their friends were often naughty, two of them were in the special group. When being beaten, Kien often did not tell anyone, continued to play with the group of friends who beat him, so the number of times he was beaten could be more than the two times the school knew about.
"We are very sad. The school has asked the families of the students involved to take responsibility for the victims and report to the police and superiors. Teachers have also donated to support the student's medical expenses," said Mr. Duc.
The incident is being investigated by the authorities. On the school’s side, Mr. Duc said that they will strengthen student education so that this incident does not happen again.
In August, the Ministry of Education and Training identified school violence as one of the sector’s problems, estimating that nearly 7,100 students were involved in 2022. According to current regulations, disciplinary action for students who violate the law includes three forms: warning, reprimand, and temporary suspension from school.
