Tet with family in new land, take wife and children to Nha Trang
So the New Year's Eve has come, the new year of At Ty has arrived - a year that promises new opportunities and new challenges. This is also the time for us to build our faith together, aiming for new heights. The year of Giap Thin has just passed, a year full of ups and downs, with different emotions of Vietnamese football and especially the AFF Cup 2024 championship, a strong mark that coach Kim Sang-sik left after only a short time of attachment. Instead of returning to Korea, he decided to celebrate Tet with his family in Vietnam, enjoying the Tet atmosphere imbued with Vietnamese identity.
These days, Coach Kim's house at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (located in the Vietnam Football Federation - VFF) has become more bustling and cozy than ever with peach blossoms, banh chung, and many traditional dishes.
Year of the snake, chatting with 'poisonous snake' Kim Sang-sik: Loves MU, likes Zidane and is addicted to pho
"This is the first time I celebrate Tet in Vietnam, the atmosphere is really warm. In Korea, people often wear hanbok, wish their families a happy new year and travel. But in Vietnam, the preparations are more thoughtful with peach blossoms, home decorations, and traditional dishes," he shared.
Coach Kim tasted banh chung for the first time and consulted his compatriot - Coach Park Hang-seo - to celebrate Tet in the closest way to the players. He also prepared lucky money envelopes to give to the players and planned to take his family to Nha Trang, one of the many beautiful tourist destinations in Vietnam, to enjoy this meaningful holiday. He said he would introduce his family to other Vietnamese dishes besides pho and bun cha - 2 dishes that he has been eating over and over again for many months.
"I plan to take my family to Nha Trang, one of the many beautiful tourist destinations in Vietnam, to enjoy this meaningful vacation. I want to introduce my family to other Vietnamese dishes, Vietnamese food is very delicious," said Mr. Kim.
This year is the year of the snake and coincidentally, in Korea, coach Kim Sang-sik is known by the nickname "toksa," meaning "poisonous snake." For Southeast Asian football, Mr. Kim is truly a fearsome "poisonous snake." However, for Vietnamese football, his appearance has brought "sweet fruit" at the AFF Cup.
Coach Kim Sang-sik was born on December 17, 1976 in Jeonnam, South Korea. As a young man, he played for Daegu University from 1995 to 1998. His professional football career began in 1999, at the age of 23, as a central defender for Seongnam FC (formerly Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma). With the South Korean national team, he participated in many large and small tournaments, with the most memorable achievement being the third place at the 2007 Asian Cup.
7 months living in Vietnam and special impressions
After more than half a year working in Vietnam, Coach Kim expressed his satisfaction with the environment, weather and cuisine here, especially dishes like pho or bun cha. He also revealed that he ate pho every day for the first 1-2 months and still did not get bored. "I live very happily in Vietnam. The most impressive thing is the intense love of football of the people, from children to the elderly, who always cheer and support the team unconditionally," he said.
When asked about the Vietnamese people's love for football, Coach Kim affirmed that he had never seen such passionate and ardent fans. "Vietnamese fans are even more enthusiastic than those in many European countries or Korea. Moments like Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh celebrating with the team make me very happy," he said.
Coach Kim did not forget to thank VFF for their dedicated support in logistics and organization, helping him and the team focus completely on their tasks on the field.
Coach Kim describes himself in three words: "tiger", "transformative", and "confident". At work, he always shows strictness and discipline, helping players to concentrate to the fullest. However, off the field, he wants to become the big brother of the players, always creating a close, humorous atmosphere to help them feel more comfortable and confident when competing.
"I want the team to be like a family, closely connected. Sometimes I see that some players are a bit afraid of me, but I always try to close the gap with them. In the team, I often joke and talk the funniest with Tien Linh," he added.
Happy New Year
At the age of 49, a relatively young age in the ranks of professional coaches, Mr. Kim Sang-sik has achieved many glories at both club and national team levels. His future goal is to bring the U.23 Vietnam team to win the 2025 SEA Games, and at the same time lead the Vietnam national team to participate in the 2027 Asian Cup Finals.
On the occasion of the New Year, through Thanh Nien Newspaper, he sent his New Year's greetings to his fans: "Happy New Year! Wishing everyone a happy, peaceful New Year, and a year of great prosperity!"
And "a prosperous new year" is also the sincere wish of fans for coach Kim Sang Sik and Vietnamese football in the year of the Snake. After winning the AFF Cup 2024, fans expect the team to continue to maintain its form and conquer new heights in the international arena. With the dedication and strictness of coach Kim, the talent and enthusiasm of the players, and the enthusiastic support of fans, Vietnamese football promises to enter an even more brilliant period of development this year.
