Mekong Delta tourism revenue to increase by 42% in 2023

According to a report by the Mekong Delta Tourism Association, in 2023, the region will welcome nearly 45 million visitors, an increase of 20%; 1.88 million international visitors, an increase of 257%; revenue of more than 45,700 billion VND, an increase of 42% (compared to the same period in 2022).

The Association has recognized 13 typical tourist destinations in the Mekong Delta, including 9 new destinations and 4 re-recognized destinations.

Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan - Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee - said that in 2023, 4 more tourist destinations associated with agricultural experiences were developed. Including 2 typical tourist destinations of the Mekong Delta; 2 new models are Tan Thuan Dong Countryside Market and Go Thap Countryside Market; introducing the Dinh Yen Ghost Mat Market tour; 3 tour programs at Tram Chim.

"In 2023, Dong Thap will welcome 4 million visitors; total revenue will reach VND1,900 billion, an increase of 14.15% over the same period in 2022. Currently, the whole province has 72 agricultural tourism and community tourism spots in operation, of which 50 spots meet tourist service standards, 3 spots are recognized as 3-star OCOP products and 1 spot is recognized as 4-star OCOP products," said Mr. Tuan.

Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh - Chairman of Kien Giang Province Tourism Association - said that in 2023, the total number of visitors will be 8.5 million, over 573,000 international visitors, with total revenue of 17,400 billion VND.

Last year there were many events attracting visitors to Phu Quoc, especially thanks to its sea and island advantages.

"With the view of bringing the culture, customs, people, soil, and geography of the locality to serve tourists from afar, tourists must be safe, enjoy civilized cultural products, and be protected (via hotline). A typical example is the incident where a group of Taiwanese tourists encountered difficulties, the association also provided support to protect tourists," said Mr. Khanh.

Mr. Tran Viet Phuong - Chairman of the Mekong Delta Tourism Association - informed about the activities of association and cooperation in tourism development, continuing to coordinate with 13 provinces, cities and Ho Chi Minh City to cooperate in tourism development in the period of 2020 - 2025; improving the quality of typical tourist destinations; maintaining association and cooperation with tourism centers nationwide, especially Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, the Northern provinces and the Central Highlands.

Taking note of the recommendations of representatives of tourism associations of provinces and cities, the Mekong Delta Tourism Association proposed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism soon implement solutions to expand international flights and key domestic tourism areas to the Mekong Delta, in order to attract tourists by air.
