The US Department of Commerce said it will establish a public working group on artificial intelligence (AI) to understand and take advantage of the opportunities this new technology brings, and develop guidance to deal with the risks from this technology.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), an agency of the US Department of Commerce, said the working group will include volunteers who are technical experts in the private and public sectors.
Ms. Laurie Locascio - Director of NIST - emphasized that this working group will focus on examining the unprecedented speed, scale and potential impact of generative AI as well as the potential of this technology to revolutionize many fields and society on a large scale. Previously, US President Joe Biden also emphasized the need to address the risks of AI to national security and the economy, and he will seek support from experts.
