The administration of US President Donald Trump laid off nearly 10,000 employees on February 14 in a large-scale staff reduction campaign.
Reuters reported that more than 9,500 US federal government employees working in energy, land management, health care, and retired military care agencies were laid off on February 14.

President Donald Trump and adviser Elon Musk are taking a big step toward streamlining the federal government.
Mr. Trump believes that the federal government is too big and that too much money is being wasted and cheated. The US federal government has a debt of $36 trillion and ran a deficit of $1.8 trillion last year.
The campaign to cut jobs by Trump and his adviser Elon Musk has caused confusion and anger among federal employees. Attorneys general in 14 states are suing billionaire Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) he runs for exercising “virtually unchecked” power.
Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington DC on February 14 began hearing arguments from the parties on a request to prevent Mr. Musk and DOGE from accessing data of federal agencies and carrying out employee dismissals, according to AP.
Judge Amy Berman Jackson also ordered the administration to halt plans for mass layoffs, data deletions, and funding cuts to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which had been sued by a union that works for the agency to stop the administration from dismantling it.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is preparing to lay off thousands of workers next week, a move that could strain resources ahead of the April 15 deadline for Americans to file income taxes, Reuters reported.
Most recently, DOGE staff arrived at the Pentagon on February 14 to begin working with the US Department of Defense amid military officials predicting billions of dollars in budget cuts.
