On July 15, India's PTI news agency reported that a statement from the US Embassy in New Delhi said that the Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier strike group operated with the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean on July 12, demonstrating the growing strategic similarities between the two sides in the important maritime domain.
The Indian Navy deployed guided missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam and supply ship INS Aditya.
“This joint maritime activity enhances interoperability between two major defense partners and underscores our shared commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” the US Embassy said.
Participating in the exercise, the US and Indian military forces focused on enhancing maritime domain awareness and information sharing, enhancing complementarity and logistics interoperability, and improving air-to-air coordination capabilities.
The Indian Navy regularly participates with US Navy units in multilateral exercises across the Pacific, including Southwest Asia and the African littoral.
In addition, the Indian Navy is also playing a leading role along with the US Navy and other allies and partners in the ongoing Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 exercise in Hawaii.
