Today, former Vietnamese football players such as Duong Hong Son, Thach Bao Khanh, and Pham Thanh Luong participated in the football training program (Football Clinic) for talented young players within the framework of Mitsubishi Electric's CSR activities, organized in conjunction with the AFF Cup trophy procession.
The event took place at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (VYF), including a training workshop and activities applying the “Okada” training method named after famous coach Takeshi Okada. The workshop was led by coaches from Imabari Football Club - a Japanese professional club in the Meiji Yasuda J3 League. This is also the coach who led the Japanese team to their first FIFA World Cup in 1998 and took Japan to the knockout round at the 2010 World Cup.
The AFF Cup is the region’s premier football event, with the 15th edition set to take place in December this year. The Vietnamese team’s goal is to reach the final.
The 2024 AFF Cup group stage kicks off on December 8 with Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia and play-off winner Timor Leste in Group A.
Meanwhile, Group B will feature Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar and Laos with the top two teams in each group advancing straight to the next round.
The semi-finals will be held over the home and away legs on December 26-27 and December 29-30, while the final will take place on January 2 and 5, 2025, respectively.
