In the dry season, hundreds of households lack water for daily use.

Residents of Hamlet 1, Long Dinh Commune, Can Duoc District have to collect water from a temporary public water supply station for use.

For nearly a month now, along the roads leading to Long Dinh commune of Can Duoc district, there have always been people on duty at temporary public water supply points waiting to collect cans of fresh water to bring home for use.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh (Long Dinh commune, Can Duoc district) said: “I have been staying in Hamlet 1, Long Dinh commune for more than 3 years, every year in the dry season there is a shortage of water for daily use . For about a week now, this situation has recurred. Every morning I take the opportunity to collect a few cans of water to bring home for my family to bathe and wash. I hope this situation will soon be resolved and will not recur in the future.”

In Tan Trach commune, due to the limited water supply from the factory, sometimes available, sometimes not, many households have to stay up until 1 or 2 am to collect each can of water. Some households at the end of the pipeline even have no water for almost a whole week. Therefore, the locality has arranged water tanks at the end of the source to temporarily supply water to the people.

Mr. Van Cong Nho (Tan Trach commune, Can Duoc district) said: "The water pipe from Provincial Road 830 to the households in Hamlet 5, Tan Trach commune is about 1.5km long, but only the outer half has water, the inner half has no water. People have to carry cans of water from other places to use."

The lack of domestic water has not only disrupted the lives of about 300 households in Long Dinh and Tan Trach communes, Can Duoc district, but about 570 households in Tan Tap, Phuoc Vinh Tay, Phuoc Lai and Dong Thanh communes of Can Giuoc district are also waiting for every drop of domestic water.

According to local authorities, the cause of the shortage of domestic water is due to the high demand for water during the dry season. In addition, most people in rural areas still have the habit of using water directly and do not pay attention to storing water properly.

At the same time, water supply units do not provide enough and continuous water, leading to a lack of water pressure in the pipeline, preventing water from reaching the communes at the end of the source. Therefore, the shortage of domestic water has been recurring for many years.

Faced with this situation, the functional sector and local authorities along with related units are urgently seeking temporary solutions as well as long-term responses to soon stabilize people's lives.

Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Environment and Irrigation - Trinh Hung Cuong informed that the Department has organized a team to survey the situation and work directly with localities lacking domestic water to find solutions.

Accordingly, the Department will advise the Department of Agriculture and Environment to work with water supply companies in the province; at the same time, urge water supply facilities to review and upgrade equipment, pipelines, regulate water sources, and ensure sufficient water sources to serve the minimum living needs of the people./.
