Due to a lack of teachers, some schools in the mountainous district of Lang Chanh (Thanh Hoa) cannot teach English, IT, and music to students.

On October 28, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Son, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Chanh District, confirmed that due to the shortage of teachers, some schools in the district could not teach some subjects to students.

Lang Chanh District as well as many mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa Province are lacking many teachers, forcing many subjects to stop being taught.

Specifically, Giao Thien Secondary School (Giao Thien Commune, Lang Chanh District) has been forced to stop teaching music and English since the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year due to lack of teachers. Yen Khuong Primary School (Yen Khuong Commune, Lang Chanh District) has been forced to stop teaching IT and English due to lack of teachers.

In addition to the above two schools, several other schools in Lang Chanh district had to stop teaching some subjects due to a lack of teachers.

According to Mr. Son, primary and secondary schools in the area are short of 60 teachers (primary schools are short of 38 teachers, secondary schools are short of 22 teachers). Among them, there are schools that are short of up to 8 teachers such as Yen Thang Primary School (Yen Thang commune), making teaching and learning at this school very difficult.

"The entire district is lacking 92 positions in the education sector. Last May, the district organized a recruitment exam but only recruited 25 teachers. The department has directed schools to temporarily solve the teacher shortage by teaching in inter-schools and contracting work with teachers, but this only partially solves the problem, not completely," said Mr. Son.

Few recruitment sources, difficult terrain, and unsatisfactory remuneration policies make recruiting teachers in mountainous areas very difficult.

Talking to reporters about the current shortage of teachers in Lang Chanh District as well as many other localities in the mountainous areas of Thanh Hoa province, Mr. Tran Van Thuc, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, said that recruiting teachers in mountainous areas is always very difficult. Partly because the mountainous areas have few recruitment sources, and secondly because the mechanism and policies for teachers are not satisfactory while this area has very difficult economic and terrain conditions.

According to Mr. Thuc, educational institutions must conduct inter-school teaching and make-up teaching as a way to "adapt" to the shortage of teachers so that they can still teach the full curriculum to students, not lack.
