Expanding cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and Brunei

On August 10, within the framework of a working visit to Brunei Darussalam, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh and the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation met with Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and President of the Brunei Legislative Council Abdul Rahman Taib.

At the meetings, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh highly appreciated the cooperation between Vietnam and Brunei in regional and international mechanisms; expressed his hope that, in the context of many fluctuations in the world, the two countries will strengthen exchanges and cooperation, build a fast-growing and sustainable ASEAN community; and continue to reach consensus on maintaining a peaceful and stable environment in the region and in the East Sea.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly hopes that the Sultan and Brunei agencies will support the implementation of the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership for the 2023-2027 period, including continuing to facilitate Vietnamese enterprises to promote cooperation with Brunei enterprises in priority areas such as oil and gas, chemicals, Halal industry, tourism, etc.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly hopes that the two sides will deepen defense-security cooperation; enhance cooperation in education-training and human resource development; and take advantage of new growth drivers such as green economy and digital economy. Regarding cooperation between the two legislative bodies, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly suggested that the two sides study and promote the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Brunei Legislative Council, creating a foundation for deepening cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies.

The Sultan and the President of the Legislative Council of Brunei emphasized that the relationship between Vietnam and Brunei has developed well in all areas, especially after the two countries upgraded their relations and opened direct flights between the two countries; believing that the two countries still have much potential for cooperation. The President of the Legislative Council of Brunei highly appreciated Vietnam's role in ASEAN; believing that the two countries need to continue to actively coordinate with ASEAN member countries to contribute to maintaining ASEAN's central role.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh and the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation visited and worked at the University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Brunei's leading university whose President is Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
