The model rice grows healthily, improves productivity and reduces production costs, helping farmers increase profits, while contributing to protecting the ecological environment and reducing emissions.
In mid-September, Soc Trang Agricultural Extension Center in collaboration with Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company organized a workshop to summarize the demonstration model of Bio-Calcium biological product and Dau Trau Bio-Lua specialized fertilizer at Mr. Pham Thanh Ca's household in Truong Hien hamlet, Thanh Tri commune, Thanh Tri district, Soc Trang province.
Smart rice farming helps reduce the amount of rice seeds by more than 40%/ha thanks to the application of cluster seeders, thereby reducing 250kg of fertilizer. |
Mr. Pham Thanh Ca participated in the smart rice farming model adapting to climate change on an area of 3 hectares, divided into 5 production experiments, each experiment field has 5 hectares ( 5,000m2 ). Experiment fields 1 and 2 apply cluster seeding machine (seed quantity 60kg/ha) and combine with buried fertilizer (fertilizer quantity 210kg/ha). Experiment fields 3 and 4 apply hand-spread fertilizer (300kg/ha) and apply cluster seeding machine with seed quantity 60kg/ha. Experiment field 5 spread seeding by machine with seed quantity 100kg/ha, total NPK fertilizer application with quantity 460kg/ha.
According to Mr. Ca, the smart rice farming model helps reduce the amount of rice seeds by more than 40%/ha thanks to the application of the cluster seeder of Saigon Kim Hong Company, helping to reduce 250kg of NPK fertilizer/ha and save labor costs for 3 fertilizations of 120,000 VND/ha compared to conventional rice production. The fields in the smart rice farming model have strong plants, are free of pests and diseases, and are very resistant to lodging during the rainy season... This farming model also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions while protecting the environment for the community and the health of rice farmers.
Currently, the 2023 summer-autumn rice crop of Mr. Ca's family producing Co Tien sticky rice variety will be harvested in about 1 week. The expected yield for experimental field 1 is 8.5 tons/ha of fresh rice, experimental field 2 is 9.4 tons/ha, experimental field 3 is 8.3 tons/ha, experimental field 4 is 8 tons/ha and experimental field 5 is 8.3 tons/ha. Thus, the fields applying experimental models 1, 2, 3, 4 have an additional profit of over 3,840,000 VND/ha compared to the control field produced according to conventional methods.
Hundreds of farmers visited the smart rice farming model field at Mr. Pham Thanh Ca's household in Thanh Tri commune, Thanh Tri district, Soc Trang province. |
Mr. Vo Quoc Trung, technical officer of Soc Trang Agricultural Extension Center, said: The Smart Farming Program to Adapt to Climate Change in the Mekong Delta has been implemented since 2016. The program is a collaboration between Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company and the National Agricultural Extension Center. Based on this program, Soc Trang Agricultural Extension Center has developed specific agricultural extension models to transfer to farmers.
In 2023, Soc Trang province will deploy two smart rice farming models in Tran De and Thanh Tri districts. The model in Thanh Tri district will demonstrate the biological product Bio - Calcium and specialized fertilizer Dau Trau Bio - Rice to help farmers supplement microorganisms, fix nitrogen, decompose phosphorus and decompose cellulose to facilitate more effective application of fertilizer.
In addition, the model also applies mechanization to reduce production costs through cluster sowing, machine sowing, burying fertilizer, reducing the amount of seeds sown, reducing 2-3 times of fertilization (equivalent to a 25% reduction in the amount of NPK fertilizer of all types).
The results showed that the model rice grew well, improved productivity and reduced production costs, helping farmers increase profits, while contributing to protecting the ecological environment and reducing emissions. This model meets the criteria for participating in the Project to produce 1 million hectares of high-quality rice associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta...
Fields applying the model gave an additional profit of over 3,840,000 VND/ha compared to control fields produced according to conventional methods. |
According to Mr. Vo Quoc Trung, in the coming time, the smart rice farming model needs to be replicated in many localities in Soc Trang province. Special priority will be given to the 77,000 hectares of rice that Soc Trang province registered to participate in the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality rice associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta.
Recently, the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) has also recognized the integrated rice cultivation process adapted to climate change. On that basis, Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company has developed and carried out many activities to replicate the model. In the Mekong Delta, Binh Dien has coordinated with the National Agricultural Extension Center, the Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Services Centers of 13 provinces and cities to conduct training from the summer-autumn and autumn-winter crops of 2023 with an expected number of about 5,000 farmers.
In addition, continue to implement demonstration models in 3 important ecological regions including the upstream, midstream and coastal regions of the Mekong Delta in the summer-autumn crop. In addition to applying solutions in the process, the program will coordinate with Saigon Kim Hong Company to apply the reduction of seed sown by cluster seeder and with Bayer Vietnam Company to apply the pest management process according to Much More Rice...
Currently, our country's agricultural sector is implementing the Integrated Plant Health Management (IPHM) program. It can be said that the solutions and technical advances of the smart rice farming program and advanced farming processes in production will be an important foundation to promote IPHM in production.
In order for the smart farming model to spread more widely, Mr. Phan Van Tam, Marketing Director of Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company, said that the smart rice farming program adapting to climate change in the Mekong Delta will continue to be implemented on the basis of a cooperation agreement between Binh Dien Fertilizer Joint Stock Company and the National Agricultural Extension Center for the period 2022 - 2025. In particular, the focus will be on expanding and applying the process to rice production in the Mekong Delta and other regions nationwide.
