On February 27, Chinese technology group Tencent announced a new artificial intelligence (AI) model called Hunyuan Turbo S, claiming that this model can respond to queries faster than DeepSeek R1 - a product that is causing a stir globally.

According to Tencent's statement, Turbo S is capable of responding in less than a second, outperforming other AI models such as DeepSeek R1 or Hunyuan T1.

In addition to speed, Tencent also said that Turbo S is on par with DeepSeek-V3 – the model that runs DeepSeek's AI chatbot, which has now surpassed OpenAI's ChatGPT in terms of downloads on app stores.

DeepSeek's success with its R1 and V3 models, especially its acceptance by the Silicon Valley tech community, has put great pressure on Chinese tech corporations.

This has prompted giants like Tencent to accelerate AI development since OpenAI launched ChatGPT in late 2022.

Not only Tencent, many other large technology companies in China are also racing in the AI competition.

Last month, just days after DeepSeek-R1 shocked the tech world and sparked a sell-off in AI stocks outside China, Alibaba launched its Qwen 2.5-Max model, claiming to be vastly superior to DeepSeek-V3.

In addition to performance, Tencent also emphasized that the cost of using Turbo S is much cheaper than previous versions.

This shows that DeepSeek's open-source and low-price strategy is forcing China's leading AI companies to cut prices to compete./.
