According to the Windows Blog , USB4 2.0 support will soon be rolled out to more computers, and the move will allow Windows 11 computers to get super-fast transfer speeds of up to 80 Gbps over USB-C. Announced in September 2022, USB4 2.0 is twice as fast as Thunderbolt 4. This version is currently being tested by Microsoft in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23615.

The preview build is available for download now. Testing is limited to a small number of users with the latest and greatest supported hardware. Specifically, these devices must be using a 14th-generation Intel Core HX series mobile CPU, like the new Razer Blade 18. That’s a CPU line that was only announced at CES 2024.

Note that USB4 2.0 is backward compatible with older generations of USB and Thunderbolt, and supports all other USB-C features and functionality. When USB4 2.0 is fully supported by Windows 11, it will work with future PCs and provide the extra speed needed for high-performance displays, fast storage devices, USB hubs, and more.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23615 also allows the option to automatically launch Copilot when Windows starts. This feature is also gradually rolling out to users on the Dev channel. Additionally, the Windows share window will now allow users to share URLs directly to apps and programs like Gmail, WhatsApp, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

As usual, this latest release has a bunch of bug fixes, including patching some issues with Task Manager, improved Windows Share reliability… Microsoft has been working on other improvements for Windows 11 over the past few months, including new weather information on the lock screen, new options for reinstalling, dropping support for old printer drivers, and more bug fixes and features for the built-in Notepad editor.
