During the 10 days of the Lunar New Year (January 24 - February 2, 2025), metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) served 1,768 trains, with a capacity of 761,416 passengers and a revenue of more than 11.7 billion VND.
On February 3, Ms. Van Thi Huu Tam, Deputy Director of Urban Railway Company No. 1 (the operator of metro line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) said that during the 10 peak days of Tet (from January 24 to February 2), the unit served 1,768 trains, with 761,416 passengers, earning more than 11.7 billion VND.
On average, metro line 1 serves 177 trips per day, with 76,142 passengers, an average of 431 passengers/train, with total revenue of more than 1.3 billion VND/day.
According to statistics, during the 5 days of Tet (1st - 5th, i.e. January 29 - February 2), metro line 1 had the highest number of passengers. Metro line 1 ran 928 trains, served about 523,000 passengers and earned nearly 8 billion VND.
Of which, the peak day is January 30, 2025 (the second day of Tet), the metro line serves 194 trains, with 120,315 passengers, an average of 620 passengers/train, revenue of more than 1.8 billion VND. The remaining peak days have the number of passengers fluctuating between 45,000 - 110,000 people/day.
This is an impressive number, showing the attraction of the first urban railway line in Ho Chi Minh City as well as the potential for developing the public transport system in the future.
Before that, during Tet holidays, people in Ho Chi Minh City and many neighboring provinces and cities such as Long An, Tien Giang, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh... came to Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate Tet and experience the very crowded metro line. Therefore, the trains were always overloaded, many people had to wait for hours to take the metro.
Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway line in Ho Chi Minh City. The entire line is 19.7km long, officially put into commercial operation from December 22, 2024, connecting from the center of District 1 to Thu Duc City.
Initially, Metro operated from 5am to 10pm every day, with 9 trains.
Each train carries a maximum of 930 passengers (including 147 seats and 783 standing seats) with an interval of 8-12 minutes/trip, a total of 200 trips per day. Speed 110km/h (elevated section) and 80km/h (underground section).
Regarding ticket prices, one-way tickets range from 7,000 - 20,000 VND when paying in cash and from 6,000 - 19,000 VND when paying without cash.
In addition, daily tickets cost 40,000 VND/person, with no limit on the number of trips per day. For those who need to travel frequently, 3-day tickets are sold for 90,000 VND/person, monthly tickets are 300,000 VND/person. Students enjoy preferential treatment with monthly tickets priced at 150,000 VND/person.
