Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi, at the Phan Boi Chau Secondary School (District 12, Ho Chi Minh City) exam site, is one of the special candidates for the 10th grade high school exam in Ho Chi Minh City this year. Nhi broke her spine in a traffic accident and had to lie down to take the exam.
Compared to many parents whose children are taking the 10th grade entrance exam for public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City this year, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Trang, mother of candidate Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi, has a harder time. For many months now, she has had to stop selling goods on the street to take care of her daughter who is bedridden after a traffic accident, and to support and encourage her. Today, on the first day of the exam, from 5am, she had to hire an ambulance to take her daughter to the exam site, because she was afraid that if she was late, people would notice and make her daughter nervous.

Ms. Trang said: About 3 months ago, Nhi had a traffic accident near her house, breaking her spine. Since then, she has not been able to attend direct classes at school, and has had to stay in one place to both treat her illness and study. During this time, Nhi has been dependent on her mother for all her daily activities.
Ms. Trang shares about Yen Nhi's exam participation method.
"I have been at home for several months now to help my child get through this period. I mainly stay by his side to take care of his health and motivate him. As for the exams, it depends on his ability, I don't know what else to do. If he wants to take the exam, I will follow. I am a single mother raising 2 children, Nhi is my first daughter, the 3 of us depend on each other thanks to my street vendor," Trang confided.
Currently, Trang’s family lives in a makeshift house deep in a small alley on Dong Tam Street (Trung Chanh Commune, Hoc Mon District). For many months now, Nhi has been struggling with her illness while working hard for her exams, studying from 5am to late at night every day. Nhi has registered 3 wishes, of which the first wish is to go to Nguyen Huu Cau High School (a key school in Hoc Mon District) to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor in the future.

Yen Nhi confided: "I want to study really well so that I can have a job in the future and help my mother. My dream is to become a doctor. I love my mother very much. She is the motivation for me to try hard to pass the high school entrance exam."
According to Trang, Nhi has been an excellent student for many years and actively participates in school and class activities. However, the accident has made her path to study difficult.
Mr. Ho Ngoc Dang Khoa, Head of the examination site at Phan Boi Chau Secondary School, informed: The examination site has 670 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam. Among them, Yen Nhi has a spinal injury and has to lie down to take the test. The examination site has arranged a room on the ground floor for the student's convenience, this room still has 2 invigilators and 1 hallway monitor. The school has prepared a medical team and an ambulance on standby in case the candidate's health has problems, they will be transferred to the nearest hospital.
It is known that the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2024-2025 school year has 6 special candidates who need help during the exam. In addition to Yen Nhi's case, the remaining 5 candidates with broken right arms were also arranged to take the exam in a separate room, with surveillance cameras, and a staff member to write the test for them. This staff member is from a school outside the district and the subject taught is not the same as the exam subject. The entire exam process is recorded by audio and video.
