Striker Mbappe received a red card in Real Madrid's 1-0 victory over Alaves in round 31 of La Liga early this morning (April 14).

The incident happened in the 38th minute, when the French player had a rough situation when he stepped hard on the leg of defender Antonio Blanco. At first, the referee only gave a yellow card. However, after consulting VAR, he gave Mbappe a red card.

After receiving the red card, Mbappe seemed to realize his mistake and apologized to his teammates and Real Madrid's coaching staff.

Assistant Davide Ancelotti, who is also the son of coach Carlo Ancelotti, said the French striker realized the mistake he had made and apologized to the whole team.

"Mbappe is definitely not a violent player. He apologized and realized the mistake he made. It was a tackle that deserved a red card and he had to suffer the consequences," assistant coach Davide shared.

The red card was Mbappe's first sending off since joining Real Madrid last summer. He has previously been sent off three times for PSG, once in Ligue 1 and twice in domestic cup competitions.

Real Madrid are currently awaiting word from the Spanish Football Federation on Mbappe's suspension. It is likely that the striker will miss Real Madrid's upcoming La Liga matches against Athletic Club and Getafe.

The reigning La Liga champions will then face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on April 26.
