Substitute midfielder Scott McTominay's brace helped Man Utd beat Brentford 2-1 in round 8 of the Premier League on October 7.
Before winning their first home win at Old Trafford in the Premier League since August 26, Erik ten Hag and his team made the fans feel anxious. They started the match with the central defender pair Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans. The first one often made mistakes and lost his official position for more than a year, while the other one is old and is only considered a backup option through a short-term contract.
That concern was even more justified when Brentford - currently in the bottom half of the table - started strongly and launched their first shots. Meanwhile, the home team's attack faltered under the opponent's pressure.

The last thing Man Utd fans wanted happened in the 26th minute. Casemiro lost the ball at home and Brentford had a chance to counter-attack. And after a series of messy situations, Mathias Jensen quickly shot low. The ball lightly hit Victor Lindelof, leaving goalkeeper Andre Onana unable to save the goal even though he reached down and touched the ball. Once again, Onana's reflexes were questioned as he was defeated by his opponent's not-so-difficult shot.
The TV cameras stopped focusing on Onana and then turned to Ten Hag - the man who decisively pushed striker David De Gea out to make room for the Cameroonian goalkeeper last summer.
Man Utd responded, but the attack clearly needed more time to get to grips with each other. Striker Rasmus Hojlund, who scored twice against Galatasaray in midweek in the Champions League, tried hard but failed to connect well with his teammates. At the end of the first half, Man Utd created two notable finishes from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford but they were not very dangerous, while Bryan Mbeumo's response gave the home team a scare.

Ten Hag added to Man Utd's attack early in the second half by bringing on Christian Eriksen for Casemiro. The Danish midfielder provided some quality shots from distance, but they were not enough to beat goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.
After that, Man Utd brought in Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial. These adjustments helped the home team attack more suddenly, but they still lacked sharpness in the final finishing situations. Garnacho shot over the bar in his favorite position, and Martial left a disappointing image of a striker who rarely played.
Even when Man Utd put the ball into the net in the 89th minute, from McTominay's tap-in, luck still turned away from the Old Trafford team because Martial was caught offside.

However, by the time some fans had left, Man Utd had created an incredible comeback. Ten Hag's adjustments paid off when from Garnacho's cross, McTominay controlled and finished neatly into the near corner. In the seventh minute of injury time, from a free kick, Maguire headed the ball for McTominay to head it into the net from close range, sealing victory for the home team.
At 92:46, Man Utd set a new milestone, never having been behind so late in the Premier League and successfully turned the game around. McTominay became the first player to score a brace after the 90th minute since 2022 in England's top flight.
The three points move Man Utd up to 10th, with Chelsea on 12 points after eight games. The two-week international break will give Ten Hag valuable time to reassemble his squad ahead of the trip to Sheffield on 22 October.
