In 1965-1966, the US imperialists expanded the war of destruction in the North, intensified terrorism, and devastated the South. During that period, Vinh Linh and Quang Binh areas were the most severely attacked by the enemy, becoming the “fire coordinates”. People on the front line had to endure thousands of tons of bombs and bullets. Villages were devastated by the brutality of the war. People’s lives were completely transformed into trenches and tunnels.
Realizing that the war would last, the Party Central Committee proposed Plan K8 (implemented from August 1966) and K10 (implemented in October 1967) to evacuate people from the fierce war zone, reduce population density in the front line, and at the same time "preserve forces and race", ensuring that the forces staying behind to fight could fight the enemy with peace of mind. Tens of thousands of Vinh Linh compatriots were transferred to the northern provinces, and more than the scope of an evacuation, the journey of the people from the front line to the peaceful zone became an unprecedented migration in history. And until today, that migration is still imprinted in the memories of the children with deep affection for "common homeland"...
Along with many northern localities, Tan Ky (Nghe An) is the land that sheltered and protected people from Quang Tri who were evacuated under the K10 plan when the border area was heavily bombed by the US in the years 1967-1972... More than half a century has passed, that affection has always been constantly nurtured by generations of cadres and people of the two districts and has become a special relationship called "Common Hometown".
