(NB&CL) As scheduled, the Vietnam Journalists Association at all levels has started the work of selecting, evaluating, and screening high-quality journalistic works. In the context of increasingly developing science and technology, increasingly innovative journalism technology poses new requirements and challenges in the process of creating a high-quality journalistic work. The digital technology "battlefield" supporting the creation of journalistic works has also posed new requirements for members and journalists in the task of producing works that meet public needs.
Public pressure for innovation…
As soon as receiving instructions on selecting high-quality press works, the Provincial and City Journalists Association, its branches, sub-branches, and press agencies promptly disseminated and ordered press products to promote and serve political tasks and closely follow the breath of life... One of the stories that is receiving attention is how to innovate and create quality press works to be worthy and keep up with the current context of digital transformation of journalism.
The public expects press products that are not only outstanding in terms of information content quality but also press products that attract and appeal to the public “at first sight” with the appeal of modern technology applications. That is why the National Press Awards Charter (amended) has added a number of new types of Awards. Accordingly, the National Press Awards Council will award awards to press works and products that use multimedia data and apply production processes, techniques, and digital media technology in the process of content creation and production organization. There are independent formats such as: Infographics, Video clips, Podcasts, multimedia news, with creative colors...
This change has contributed to promoting the spirit of innovation in the activities of the Association at all levels, creating motivation for the development of multi-platform, multimedia, and data journalism. Applying technology in modern media journalism, promoting the application of technology and digital transformation of journalism... And that is both the criterion and the "key" to a high-quality journalism product that we are aiming for.
As journalist Tran Tien Duan - Editor-in-Chief of Vietnamplus e-newspaper shared: “Taking advantage of digital technology, some press agencies have quickly built a multimedia convergence newsroom, with an increasingly modern working environment. In addition, the production of high-quality press content, big data products, and the application of artificial intelligence technology to create valuable experiences for the press public is convenient. New press products create two-way interaction with readers, such as online interviews, creating a closer feeling between readers and newspapers. Digital technology also supports journalists from the stages of information collection, data analysis to content production and distribution…”.

The support from technology has helped create new press products that are more perfect, both containing high information content and investing in technology, meeting the needs of the modern public. Commenting on the inevitable "invasion" of technology into press activities, some leaders of the Local Journalists Association said that good works, with serious and elaborate investment, many creative, vivid ways of expression, attracting readers, clearly demonstrating the capacity for digital transformation and press innovation... will be the works that receive special attention from the Appraisal Council this year.
Regarding this issue, journalist Do Ngoc Ha - Permanent Vice President of Quang Ninh Journalists Association shared: Currently, the press is constantly changing, the evaluation of journalistic works is not only on the side of the leaders of press agencies, leaders of the Association, Journalists Association but the "key" is also from the public. They will have a way to choose works, a comprehensive perspective on both content and technology. High-quality journalistic works that converge the problem of "content is king, technology is queen" will best meet the current need for information reception.
“The public always wants press products that are “renewed” by modern technology. It will be like a “magnet” to attract the public and we will also encourage and motivate members and journalists to actively invest in production, giving priority to choosing…” – journalist Do Ngoc Ha affirmed.
Sharing this view, journalist Duong Vu Thong - Permanent Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association said: At the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association, thanks to financial support, every year many professional training courses, many seminars, workshops, practical writing sessions, and experience sharing sessions have been organized. In particular, short-term training courses with appropriate and practical content have helped journalists and members update their knowledge and approach modern journalism methods and technologies.
“It can be affirmed that in order to meet the requirements of the new situation, effectively serving the political tasks of localities and the whole country, the requirement for press agencies and journalists is to continue to strongly innovate and improve the quality of their activities. In particular, investing in high-quality press works is the core, fundamental issue and a decisive factor in the growth of press activities in the new period. Next is investing in technology infrastructure, applying new and modern technologies to press operations on a regular and continuous basis to ensure consistency, creating the best conditions for reporters and editors to work, promoting their creativity to have high-quality press works…” – Mr. Thong said.
"Rebound" must be real
When applying technology as a driving force for high-quality press products, it requires that the quality and effectiveness of information must be proportional. In fact, it has been proven that press agencies and Journalists Associations at all levels that value technology have initially had successful marks, even having press products that have won international awards such as Nhan Dan Newspaper, Voice of Vietnam Radio, Vietnam Television... Of course, those outstanding products are still not many due to many factors: Investment in financial resources, technology, human resources...
Therefore, to have a real "rebound" in creating high-quality press products that meet the requirements is always the expectation, desire and requires large investment of most press agencies. Journalist Do Ngoc Ha believes that what needs to be raised is to always consider innovation to improve the quality of press works as an inevitable trend that each member must be responsible for implementing. The innovation and self-improvement of members and journalists is very important, so along with training and coaching from press agencies and the Journalists Association, self-study and self-improvement are also very important.
“Learning becomes a personal need, then applying it to creating journalistic works will also be a personal need. In the context of AI supporting people in many tasks, such an upgrade is even more urgent… Therefore, our Journalists Association regularly exchanges with members about new technology, new journalism trends, new achievements in science and technology, especially artificial intelligence… through dissemination on the Association’s fanpage, website, Zalo group, considering the sharing of new information and knowledge as a personal task, a steady trickle but a daily routine….” – The Permanent Vice President of the Quang Ninh Journalists Association said.

In particular, given the fact that social networks have now become a "competitive force" with professional reporters and journalists on the information front, training professional journalism human resources in knowledge, courage, means, equipment, professional skills, awareness and ethics is the top priority requirement today.
As Mr. Duong Vu Thong also emphasized: “To have high-quality journalistic works, in addition to financial support, it is necessary to pay more attention to training and fostering professional skills for reporters and editors. Of course, they must be “multi-functional”, if in the past reporters could only specialize in taking photos, or only specializing in writing news and articles for print newspapers... now they need to know how to shoot video clips, take photos, write articles, edit, stage, and embed sound...
Implementing well the training and development of press human resources will contribute to improving the capacity of the press team, along with the work of supporting high-quality press works as we have been doing for a long time, will certainly inspire creativity in enhancing the political capacity, strength and prestige of revolutionary press activities in the integration and development period".
