Roadmap to increase retirement age of police officers

The Government issued Decree No. 57/2023/ND-CP (Decree 57) amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 49/2019/ND-CP of the Government detailing and providing measures to implement a number of articles of the Law on People's Public Security.

Decree No. 57 adds Article 3a on the maximum service age of female People's Public Security officers with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel; male People's Public Security officers with the rank of Colonel and General; and public security workers.

Accordingly, from August 15 to December 31, 2023, the maximum service age for female People's Public Security officers with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel is 56 years old.

From January 1, 2024, each year will increase by 4 months until reaching 58 years of age in 2029, determined according to the following roadmap:

Decree No. 57 clearly states that from August 15 to December 31, 2023, the maximum service age for male People's Public Security officers with the rank of Colonel or General is 60 years and 9 months, and for female People's Public Security officers with the rank of Colonel is 56 years.

From January 1, 2024, every year will increase by 3 months for men until reaching 62 years of age in 2028 and every year will increase by 4 months for women until reaching 60 years of age in 2035, determined according to the following roadmap:

From August 15 to December 31, 2023, the maximum service age for male police officers is 60 years and 9 months, and for female police officers is 56 years.

From January 1, 2024, every year will increase by 3 months for men until reaching 62 years of age in 2028 and every year will increase by 4 months for women until reaching 60 years of age in 2035, determined according to the following roadmap:

As of August 15, female People's Public Security officers with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel; male People's Public Security officers with the rank of Colonel, General; and working police officers are subject to the regulations on the highest service age limit according to the provisions of the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on People's Public Security and Decree No. 135/2020/ND-CP of the Government regulating the retirement age.
