Fearing flooding, Hanoi residents rush to buy vegetables and meat

Today (September 10), the Hanoi City Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue (PCTT and TKCN) issued a flood warning on a number of rivers.

Recorded by Lao Dong Newspaper reporters at 7:00 p.m. today (September 10) at Big C Tran Duy Hung supermarket (Hanoi), the number of people gathered was very large, the entrance was almost full of people.

It was only dusk but the areas selling fresh food such as pork, beef, vegetables, dried foods... were almost sold out.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Tra (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) shared: "Like many people who are afraid of floods, I took the opportunity to go to the supermarket to buy food for my family. However, when I got there, the vegetable counters were almost empty, with only a few types of raw vegetables left. Even the fresh meat and fish counters had no items left, let alone frozen products."

Similar to Ms. Tra, Mr. Nguyen Duy Ngoc (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) - worried: "Currently, the supermarket is too crowded, people are pushing each counter one by one. I haven't bought anything yet so I'm trying to squeeze out to go home. I plan to go back to some markets near my house to see, hoping to buy some food."

Mr. Pham Van Linh (Cau Giay, Hanoi) has bought enough food for his family for the next few days. "Learning from the experience of the storm that hit the past few days, my family could not buy anything. So today, I tried to come earlier, but I had to be quick and steady to get a few trays of pork and 3 bunches of vegetables" - Mr. Linh said.

Although food and supplies were almost sold out, outside, from the garage to the supermarket door, there were still many people jostling to get in.

To ensure adequate supply of goods for people, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade has just issued a document requesting businesses, distribution and retail systems to provide adequate supply of goods for production and people's lives, and to prevent price increases after the storm. Not only after the storm, but ensuring supply and maintaining stable prices of goods is still a continuous task that businesses and localities will continue to carry out from now until the end of the year.
