Information before the match MU vs Man City

The 142nd FA Cup final will see the first-ever Manchester derby at Wembley Stadium between Man City and cross-town rivals EFL Cup winners Manchester United tonight.

While The Citizens are looking to lift England's oldest trophy for the seventh time in history, the Red Devils are hoping to get their hands on the prestigious award for the 13th time.

Four years on from English football's first domestic quadruple, history beckons again as Man City bid to become the first English team since Manchester United in 1998-99 to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season.

The Citizens already have a trophy in their pocket after winning the Premier League title for the third year in a row. Pep Guardiola's side finished the Premier League campaign five points clear of second-placed Arsenal.

A trip to Istanbul for a Champions League match against Inter Milan awaits in a week's time, but City's focus is now on the FA Cup and their 12th final in the competition. The Citizens have won six and lost five of their previous 11 FA Cup finals, the most recent being a remarkable 6-0 win over Watford in 2019 - the biggest aggregate victory in FA Cup final history.

The Citizens, who are also the top scorers in the FA Cup this season with 17 goals, have a perfect record in major domestic cup finals under Guardiola - winning a total of five since his arrival in 2016.

The chance to win the FA Cup against United to keep their treble hopes alive is certainly appealing, but City will not be taking their opponents lightly on Saturday after losing 2-1 at Old Trafford in their last derby in January.

United are into their 21st FA Cup final - the most by any team in the competition's history, alongside Arsenal. Ten Hag's men are in high spirits after winning their last four Premier League games to secure third place and a Champions League place for next season.

The Red Devils last got their hands on the FA Cup in 2015/16 when they went into extra-time and Jesse Lingard scored late on to beat Crystal Palace 2-1.

The Dutchman ended United's six-year trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup in late February, beating Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley. The Red Devils will no doubt be delighted to have denied City a treble by winning the FA Cup.

It has been a long time since the FA Cup final attracted such attention, the organizers even did an unprecedented job of engraving the word Manchester on the FA Cup, with the main purpose of increasing the image coverage for this special Derby event.

Will the next word be United or City? It is clear that the blue half is currently dominating in almost every aspect. But with the pride of the most successful team in England, MU will be determined to do their best to preserve the historic "treble" - this is still their own legacy.

MU vs Man City squad information

Man City quartet Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji all missed the defeat to Brentford due to minor injuries or fitness concerns, but Guardiola confirmed they have all been involved in training this week.

Guardiola has also confirmed goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who kept five clean sheets in as many FA Cup games en route to this year's final, will start.

Nathan Ake started against Brentford and played just over an hour after returning from a hamstring injury, while John Stones is set to return and assume his hybrid midfield role alongside Rodri.

Captain Ilkay Gundogan is expected to return in central midfield, while goal machine Erling Braut Haaland will look to take his tally to 52 goals in all competitions.

On United's side, Ten Hag admitted that Antony is "unlikely" to feature in the final after failing to make progress in his recovery from an ankle injury, while Anthony Martial has a hamstring problem and is undergoing treatment along with Lisandro Martinez, Marcel Sabitzer, Donny van de Beek, and Tom Heaton.

Antony's expected absence will see Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho occupy the flanks, with top scorer Marcus Rashford leading the line in place of Martial.

Key midfielder Casemiro, who scored alongside Rashford in United's last Wembley win in the EFL Cup final, is available to partner Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen or Fred in midfield.

Left-back Luke Shaw is fit to return to the starting line-up after recovering from a minor back injury, while Raphael Varane will replace captain Harry Maguire at centre-back.

Expected lineup MU vs Man City

Man City: Ortega; Walker, Dias, Ake; Stones, Rodri; Bernardo, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Grealish; Haaland.

MU: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Sancho, Fernandes, Garnacho; Rashford.
