On January 6, the Traffic Police - Order Team of Thu Duc City Police (HCMC) set up a checkpoint on Vo Van Ngan Street, Thu Duc City Children's House section to handle traffic violations.
Ms. T. burst into tears when she learned the fine for climbing the sidewalk.
Today is the 6th day that Decree 168/2024 takes effect. The Decree will increase fines for many traffic violations, even 20-30 times higher than before.
At 9:00 a.m., police discovered Ms. T. (38 years old, living in Thu Duc City) riding a motorbike on the sidewalk at the intersection of Vo Van Ngan - Bac Ai Street, Binh Tho Ward. When discovered by traffic police, the woman repeatedly put her hand on her chest, appearing to have difficulty breathing.
Ms. T. also burst into tears when the police announced that the fine for climbing the sidewalk was from 4-6 million VND, and 2 points were deducted from the driver's license.
Ms. T. explained that she has two small children and because she was not familiar with the road, she rode her motorbike on the sidewalk. "I didn't expect the fine to be so high because it wasn't updated. I will never dare to violate it again," said Ms. T.
Ms. T. said she would never dare to violate again.
At 10:41, Ms. L. (55 years old, living in Thu Duc City) drove her motorbike through a red light at the intersection of Vo Van Ngan Street - Road No. 6, Linh Chieu Ward and was fined by the police. For this violation, Ms. L. will be fined from 4-6 million VND and have 4 points deducted from her driver's license.
The police showed Ms. L. the clip showing her running a red light, which she happily accepted.
Hearing the fine, Ms. L. expressed disbelief at the new fine. "I think the fine is too high for just turning left on a red light. I will never dare to do it again," Ms. L. explained.
On the same day, the Traffic Police - Order Team of Thu Duc City Police also penalized dozens of cases of going the wrong way, not in the correct lane...
A representative of the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police said that after 3 days of applying the new traffic violation penalty regulations, from January 1 to January 4, the Traffic Police Department and the Police of districts, towns, and Thu Duc City have penalized 6,106 traffic violations with a total fine of more than 10 billion VND.
