According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee, the Southern Traditional Cake Festival contributes to restoring, preserving and promoting culinary values, honoring and encouraging the creativity of traditional cake makers; at the same time, creating favorable conditions for artisans to connect with domestic and foreign enterprises to expand the market. The festival also contributes to strengthening solidarity and friendship with provinces and cities across the country; enhancing regional cultural exchanges, promoting the image of Can Tho city to domestic and foreign tourists to promote the city's socio-economic development.
According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the new feature of this year's festival is that the Organizing Committee has decided to reduce 25% for artisans and participating units to rent booths to perform and sell traditional cakes. Thereby, sharing so that artisans participating in the festival can have more new creations, contributing to creating many new types of traditional cakes, bringing more interesting and attractive things, enhancing the cultural value of the festival...
The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the organizing sub-committees to closely coordinate to ensure security and order, environmental sanitation, landscape protection, food hygiene and safety, etc., creating an impression for tourists inside and outside the city, and foreign visitors to the festival.
According to the Organizing Committee, the highlight of this year's festival is the performance and tasting of a giant banh xeo with a circumference of 9 meters, a diameter of 3 meters, with fillings made from 100 lobsters from Nha Trang city. The Can Tho Professional Chefs Association also demonstrated wrapping and cooking the largest banh chung in the Mekong Delta with dimensions of 1.9 meters x 1.9 meters and 0.8 meters thick, weighing more than 300kg, made by 20 artisans.
With hundreds of traditional Southern cakes displayed at the festival along with giant banh xeo and banh chung, the 12th Southern Traditional Cake Festival in 2025 promises to bring visitors an interesting and unforgettable feeling.
