On the morning of October 3, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union held a press conference to inform about the 2023 Vietnamese Farmers' Pride Program with a series of main events: Ceremony to honor and award the title of Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers 2023; Commending 63 typical agricultural cooperatives voted by the Vietnam Farmers' Union...
According to the Organizing Committee, the quality of this year's outstanding farmers is more outstanding than previous years. If in 2022, the outstanding farmer with the highest revenue reached 70 billion VND, this year the figure reached 140 billion VND. That is the high-tech shrimp farming model of old farmer Ngo Van De in Long Khanh commune (Duyen Hai, Tra Vinh). This shrimp farming model of Mr. De brings in a profit of 42 billion VND/year.
Old farmer Ngo Van De said he has 17 high-tech shrimp ponds in a total area of 10 hectares. These ponds are all built using high technology, with strict control over water sources, feed, shrimp density, etc. Therefore, the yield is 3 times higher than traditional farming methods.
"High-tech shrimp farming produces high yields, clean products, and can be sold at a higher price than the market price, so it helps to earn a minimum profit of 1-4 billion VND/crop. I am also testing the management and operation of the farming process through an application installed on the phone, including providing daily shrimp feed and wages for workers," he shared.
The profits of this year's outstanding farmers are also higher than previous years. Among them, the outstanding farmer with the highest profit belongs to Mr. Le Van Sam (Ba Sam) in Ben Tre, reaching 50 billion VND/year.
In addition, there are 42 outstanding farmers achieving profits of over 3 billion VND/year.
The 2023 Outstanding Farmers were selected in many fields, especially outstanding farmers in ecotourism and developing circular agricultural economic models. Many inventions and innovations of outstanding farmers are very useful, contributing effectively to the production process.
Many excellent farmers have effective cooperative and production linkage models. In addition to good production and business, some excellent farmers also actively contribute to the movement of building new rural areas and protecting national security.
At the press conference, farmer Nguyen Van Nam - Director of Chu Noodle Cooperative (Bac Giang) - shared: "In 2014, I was the first person in Bac Giang province to be voted as an excellent farmer. This motivated me to continue to strive, improve quality and make efforts to bring Chu noodles to the market. Up to now, Chu noodles have become a specialty and are increasingly famous."
Currently, Chu Noodle Cooperative has 83 members participating in production. Chu Noodles has become a strong brand of the province, creating a national position and being honored as a 4-star OCOP product of Bac Giang. The product is exported to about 20 markets in Asia and some European countries.
"We are now the first cooperative in Bac Giang province to be honored by the Vietnam Farmers' Union," said Mr. Nam.
Responding to the significance of the activity to honor 100 outstanding farmers and 63 outstanding cooperatives, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Head of the Central Propaganda Department of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, assessed that this activity contributes to spreading effective agricultural economic models with good practices, while at the same time encouraging and attracting farmers to participate in collective economic components, especially cooperative models.
Thanks to digital technology, workers only need to hold their smartphones and open the app. After a few taps, the machines in the ponds will automatically feed the shrimp. To know the size of the shrimp, just open the app, take a photo of the shrimp and get the exact result.
