With the goal of building Ho Chi Minh City into a Center for Innovative Startups, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai hopes that the innovative startup community will continue to choose the city and accompany the city in contributing to building strategies, policies, creating and building an innovative startup ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City.
On March 28, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee organized a meeting program with the Ho Chi Minh City innovation community.
Attending the event were comrades: Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Phan Van Mai, Central Party Committee member, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; and nearly 30 prestigious experts and innovative entrepreneurs in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City.
Ho Chi Minh City is a special urban area, a major center of economy, culture, education - training, science - technology, a hub for international exchange and integration. The city's creative startup ecosystem is considered the most dynamic in the country.
The city has 50% of startups, 40% of incubators and startup support facilities, 44% of investment capital, and 60% of business deals nationwide. The city is also the first locality to have a specific policy on innovative startups.
Ho Chi Minh City is considered a place where the innovation community can choose to start a business. The Ho Chi Minh City government has many policies and commitments to build and develop a startup ecosystem.
At the meeting, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai informed that currently, Ho Chi Minh City is focusing on building the city into a Creative Startup Center of Southeast Asia and the continent.

During the meeting, Ho Chi Minh City leaders also listened to and shared difficulties and problems regarding mechanisms and policies to support the process of startups and innovation.
“The city leaders wish to listen to the innovation community share and contribute ideas to help Ho Chi Minh City choose the right focus, the right direction, and invest properly to perfect mechanisms and policies, further develop the startup and innovation ecosystem in the city to regional and international stature,” affirmed the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee shared the goals and vision for the development of Ho Chi Minh City as well as the city's development strategies. At the same time, he affirmed that with the role and development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City, there is still a lot of room, opportunities, and many "orders" from the city for the startup and innovation community to participate in research and solve the city's problems from socio-economic development, urban traffic, environment, climate change, etc.
“These are opportunities for experts and innovative entrepreneurs to research and participate in startups, contributing to the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City and the country; at the same time contributing to building Vietnam’s competitiveness and international integration,” the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee expressed his wish.
Resolution 98 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Ho Chi Minh City has opened up many mechanisms to develop science and technology, and innovative startups.
Ho Chi Minh City leaders hope to listen to experts and startups share and contribute ideas from strategic orientation, mechanisms, policies to specific tasks to jointly build a startup and innovation center in Ho Chi Minh City of regional and continental stature.
Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City leaders want to listen to comments on building regulations on a controlled testing mechanism (sandbox) for new technology solutions within the scope of high-tech parks, concentrated information technology parks, and innovation centers in Ho Chi Minh City.
Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Viet Dung introduced the project to support the development of the innovative startup ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City and the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Creative Startups.
The center is a place to gather and connect resources in the city's innovative startup ecosystem, domestically and internationally.
The center was built with the goal of forming a network of innovative startup centers in Ho Chi Minh City including incubators, accelerators, innovative startup support organizations, investment funds, schools, institutes and related domestic and foreign agencies, organizations and corporations.
The center is also a place to help spread the State's support policies on innovation and startups to the community, provide services on innovative startups, support technology transfer activities, research and development and commercialization of scientific research results, in order to create competitive advantages for the city in the region and internationally in innovative startups for the city.
