This is an activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored as "City for Peace" by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Ha Minh Hai said that the Book Fair is not only a cultural event, but also a bridge of knowledge, where each book carries stories, ideas and knowledge that are widely shared. This year's Book Fair continues to affirm the important role of books in modern social life, especially in the context of strong development and international integration of the capital. With the tradition of studiousness of the Vietnamese people and Hanoians, Hanoi hopes and believes that the 2024 Book Fair will bring readers a lot of joy, creating the best conditions to help readers access rich knowledge resources, serving in life, work, study and research.
Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Ha Minh Hai also affirmed that the enthusiastic participation of readers will be the decisive factor in creating the success and cultural identity of the Book Fair, promoting the cultural values of Thang Long - Hanoi, promoting the tradition of the heroic Capital - City for Peace, so that Hanoi becomes the "Capital of Books and Knowledge". At the same time, contributing to concretizing the goal of building Hanoi into a center of convergence and promotion of cultural values, creating endogenous strength for sustainable development as set out in Resolution No. 15-NQ/TU of the Politburo, contributing to building a cultural, civilized, modern, green and smart Capital - a city with a typical value system: "Cultural Capital - Global Connection - Elegant and Splendid - Harmonious Development - Peaceful and Prosperous" - a place worth visiting and staying, worth living and contributing.

The 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024 takes place from September 27 to 29, with the participation of nearly 30 publishers and book distribution enterprises nationwide, bringing a reading culture space and many attractive book exchange and experience programs. In addition, the book fair continues to receive the response and participation of a number of diplomatic agencies such as embassies of countries: Laos, Cambodia, France, Italy...
The Book Fair has many meaningful activities, affirming the importance of books in social life, demonstrating the tradition of learning of the Vietnamese people, promoting the cultural values of Thang Long-Hanoi. The highlight of the activities is the display and exhibition of books with the theme "Hanoi: Capital of culture and heroes - City for peace".
Within the framework of the 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024, many special incentive programs, attractive and meaningful exchange and discussion programs will also take place, introducing new works to readers and carrying messages of pride about the cultural and historical traditions of Thang Long - Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general.

Some typical programs include: Discussion and introduction of the book "The British East India Company in Dang Ngoai (1672-1697)" with guest author, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Hanoi Publishing House); discussion and introduction of the book series "History of Vietnam in pictures" with guest Associate Prof. Dr. Phan Ngoc Huyen, Faculty of History, Hanoi National University of Education (Dong A Cultural Joint Stock Company).
Promoting the tradition of "mutual love and support", the Organizing Committee of the 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024 launched a campaign for local publishers, book companies, publishing units participating in the Book Fair and readers to donate books to school libraries in suburban districts of Hanoi heavily affected by storms and floods.
After the Book Fair ends, the Department of Information and Communications will coordinate with the Department of Education and Training and the Hanoi Youth Union to receive, classify and donate books to schools affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi storm). This is one of the timely and meaningful activities of the capital's publishing industry, as well as the Hanoi Book Fair Organizing Committee./.
