2024 is the third year that Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day has been organized in the province, affirming the position, role and importance of books, encouraging and developing the reading movement in schools.
At Khanh Hoa Primary School (Yen Khanh), the reading movement among teachers and students is vibrant and effective. This is a school with a library recognized as an excellent library, and for 3 consecutive years the school has had students win first prize in the provincial Reading Culture Ambassador contest.
Ms. Pham Thi Hong Hanh, Vice Principal of the school, shared: Realizing the importance of books in improving knowledge, skills, developing thinking, educating and training students' personalities, in recent years the school has always paid attention to organizing reading models such as: traditional library, green library, friendly library (Room to Read), stair library, classroom...
The friendly library currently has 3,550 books, stored in an open warehouse, organized according to the Room to Read library model. The library is located in a convenient location for students to easily access and use, especially for students with disabilities.
To promote and spread the reading movement among students, the school focuses on organizing many activities, guiding parents and students to participate in reading such as: Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, responding to Lifelong Learning Week, "Reading with Children" week every October... Parents can participate in reading books with their children in library lessons in class, reading books with their children at the library. Through these activities, the school has mobilized support for books from benefactors and parents.
In addition, in carrying out the tasks of each school year, the school has developed a plan to supplement information resources every year to ensure that they are consistent with the educational program. Last school year, the school added 553 books worth about 15 million VND. 100% of the classes have 80-100 books, which are rotated between classes for students to use.
At the library models of Khanh Hoa Primary School, it is easy to see that during recess, many students go to familiar library corners to find their favorite books to read. Le Khoi Nguyen, a 4B student, shared: I love reading books at the school library, because here I find more knowledge about history, geography, and natural science. The knowledge from reading books has helped me a lot in my studies...
Since 2021, when the Prime Minister issued Decision 1862/QD-TTg on organizing Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day on April 21 every year, the reading movement in schools, units and localities in the province has had many changes.
The provincial library has promoted book promotion activities at the library and organized extracurricular activities at schools in the province to spread, encourage and develop the reading movement in the community, create a favorable reading environment, form reading habits in families, schools, agencies and organizations, contributing to building a learning society.
In 2023, the Provincial Library circulated 54,243 books to 283 reading clubs, village and hamlet cultural houses, and school libraries in the province; 72,503 readers came to read books at community cultural activity points and school libraries in districts and cities. Organized extracurricular programs at 79 schools, combined with serving on mobile library vehicles for 47,823 students with nearly 135,000 books reaching them; presented 2,707 books to schools and community cultural houses, and presented 1,580 gifts to students participating in extracurricular programs.
In the first 3 months of 2024, the Provincial Library served 41,643 readers, including 37,126 readers at community cultural activity points and school libraries in districts and cities; circulated 87,368 books, newspapers, and magazines; used a mobile multimedia library vehicle to circulate 5,100 books to 20 schools and reading rooms; organized extracurricular activities at 7 schools at all levels in the province; served 4,250 students, circulated 12,750 books to them; presented 90 books and 80 gifts to children participating in games in the program...
According to Ms. Lai Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of the Provincial Library: Towards the 3rd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2024, along with coordinating with relevant units to prepare conditions for the opening ceremony of the Book and Reading Culture Day, the Provincial Library has focused on organizing many diverse activities to develop reading culture, spreading the love of reading among students such as: organizing extracurricular activities, Reading Culture Festival, bringing mobile library vehicles directly to schools... Thereby contributing to arousing and developing reading culture and reading movement in schools.
Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day is held to affirm the position, role and importance of books in improving knowledge, skills, developing thinking, educating and training human personality. At the same time, encourage and develop the reading movement in the community, create a favorable reading environment, form reading habits in families, schools, agencies, organizations, contributing to building a learning society in the province.
This is also an opportunity to honor readers, creators, publishers, printers, distributors, libraries, book keepers, collectors, and promoters, and organizations and individuals who have contributed to the development of reading culture in the community. Thereby developing reading culture, building and forming beauty in the cultural and spiritual life of the people, encouraging and developing reading culture in the community.
