On the evening of December 23, the crew of The Soul Eater had a meeting with the audience in Hanoi. The film is adapted from the upcoming work of the same name by author Thao Trang. She is also the author of Tet in Hell Village - a work that has received much attention from the audience recently.
The film features many images imbued with folk culture, with the wedding procession scene inspired by the painting "The Mouse Wedding", traditional costumes of the North in ancient times, and children's nursery rhymes... However, these familiar materials are all covered in a ghostly color.
"With unique folk images, a magical story, elaborate costumes, styling, and makeup, along with historical consultants and a multi-generational cast from the North and South, we hope to bring a magical horror film imbued with folklore at the end of the year," said the producer's representative.
Actress Lan Phuong - who plays Thap Nuong in the film - was also present at the event. The actress is currently 6 months pregnant and is expected to give birth after Tet 2024. Although she is quite heavy and easily tired, when interacting with the audience, she is still smiling and full of energy.
Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Lan Phuong said that she accepted the invitation to make the film at the end of 2022, but because she planned to have a baby, she hesitated. After that, she decided to participate in this film and had many memories while making the film.
To play the role of Thap Nuong, Lan Phuong had to put on a very elaborate make-up. To appear with a scary face, long black nails, and a ghostly smile… she had to put on make-up for 5 hours and it took her more than 1 hour to remove it.
"It looks simple, but the makeup department had to glue fake skin onto my face. There were times when I had to keep my face that way for 2 days to avoid wasting time on makeup again. Even though it was a bit inconvenient, I had to try," Lan Phuong said.
The actress shared that her role was psychologically heavy, but thanks to the director's support, her performance became more interesting and lighter. In the film, there were some scenes of her crawling, fighting with her co-star, but she acted for real without using a stunt double.
Filmed in Ha Giang. During that time, Lan Phuong had to travel back and forth between Hanoi and Ha Giang, taking long-distance buses, going through dangerous roads, working in the cold weather and poor living conditions of the Northwest region.
Talking about her personal life, Lan Phuong said that she and her husband bought an apartment in Hanoi to stabilize their lives and prepare for the birth of their second child.
In the near future, her husband will be transferred to another city for work, possibly living far away from his wife and children for a while, but the couple will make reasonable arrangements so that the family can still be close together.
The actress confided that she did not have to be a daughter-in-law because her in-laws were abroad. When they learned that they were going to have another grandchild, her in-laws were very happy.
"My husband's parents are both Westerners, so their culture is very different from mine. They never ask me to do this or that, and they don't even ask me to cook dinner in the evening.
My mother-in-law and I have a very good relationship. When I visit, she is the one who cooks and cooks very well. They do not interfere in their children's lives. They listen to what they have to say and do not impose, unless their children ask for their opinion," she shared.
The film Soul Eater was directed by Tran Huu Tan and produced by Hoang Quan. In addition to Lan Phuong, the film also features the following actors: People's Artist Ngoc Thu, Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan, Hoang Ha...
