It is surprising that Russian gas export indicators are increasing in the current conditions, said Tom Marzek-Manser, head of gas market analysis at ICIS.
“It is surprising to see how Russia's share of the European gas market is growing after all that we have been through, and after all the efforts to reduce (imports from Russia) and reduce risks in the energy supply,” said Mr. Marzek-Manser.
Figures show that in May 2024, Russian gas exports to Europe accounted for 15% of total supplies from the European Union (EU), the UK, Switzerland, Serbia, North Macedonia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Meanwhile, the US accounted for 14% of total European gas imports.
According to analysts, this could be the result of a disruption in the operation of one of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities in Texas. In addition, the situation could be affected by increased gas supplies from Russia via Türkiye.
