The Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) said that the Ministry of Finance has announced the results of a comprehensive inspection of the management of donations and sponsorships for the creation of historical and cultural relics nationwide in 2023.
According to local reports, out of a total of 31,581 component relics, 15,324 relics (49%) have data on the collection and expenditure of donations and sponsorships. Out of 5,683 religious relics, 3,912 relics (69%) have data on the collection and expenditure of donations and sponsorships, the remaining relics do not report.
Of the other 25,898 relics, 11,412 relics (44%) have revenue and expenditure data. The remaining are mainly private relics, clan churches that have not been reported, and special relics that have not received donations or sponsorship (relics are places that mark events, historical landmarks, old streets, old houses, inscriptions, archaeological sites, caves). The relics in Dak Nong province do not have revenue and expenditure data on donations or sponsorship.
The total actual revenue in 2023 is 4,100 billion VND, excluding donations, in-kind sponsorship, construction works; donations, sponsorship for religious activities of religious organizations.
According to the report, the revenue from religious relics is 3,062 billion VND (accounting for 75%). Of which, 63 relics collected over 5 billion VND (28 relics collected over 10 billion VND).
There are 7 relics that collected over 25 billion VND, including: Ba Chua Xu Temple in Chau Doc, An Giang (220 billion VND); Bao Ha Temple in Bao Yen, Lao Cai (71 billion VND); Con Dao Prison historical relic site in Ba Ria - Vung Tau (34 billion VND); Song Son Temple in Bim Son, Thanh Hoa (28 billion VND); Hung Temple in Phu Tho (26 billion VND) and 2 relics in Hanoi: La Khe Communal House in Ha Dong (28 billion VND) and Ngu Nhac Temple (Huong Pagoda) in My Duc (33 billion VND).
Revenue from religious relics is 1,038 billion VND (25%).
The report also stated that 7 provinces and cities had total revenue from relics reaching over 200 billion VND. They are Hanoi (672 billion VND), Hai Duong (278 billion VND), An Giang (277 billion VND), (Bac Ninh) 269 billion VND, Hung Yen (242 billion VND) and Nam Dinh (215 billion VND).
Quang Ninh province was assigned to pilot the inspection, the revenue in the first 4 months of 2023 was over 67 billion VND (including revenue from Ba Vang Pagoda and some relics), the estimated revenue for the whole year is over 200 billion VND. There are 9 provinces and cities with revenue from over 100 billion VND to under 200 billion VND...
Total expenditure from sponsorship and donations in 2023 is 3,612 billion VND (some localities have higher expenditure than revenue due to using the balance carried over from 2022). The remaining amount by the end of 2023 will be transferred to 2024 to continue to be used for protecting and promoting the value of relics and organizing festivals.
