The whole Vinh Thuy commune has 1,770 households/5,865 people, the life of Vinh Thuy people mostly depends on agriculture. The idea of ​​having more children of the local people is still heavy. Well-off households still want to have more children, especially couples who have only daughters and want to have a son to continue the family line.

The rate of women of childbearing age accepting the use of contraceptives is still limited, the rate of gynecological infections is high. In addition, the service provision is shifting to social marketing of high-tech services, making it difficult to mobilize... Therefore, population work in the commune faces many difficulties.

To improve the quality of population, Vinh Thuy commune has included population and family planning indicators in the local socio-economic development plan. Socio-political organizations actively integrate population activities and targets with the activities of the unit. Under the direction of the Party Committee and local government, the Commune Population Committee has advised the Commune People's Committee to develop documents directing the annual activity plan, plans for projects of programs and plans for World Population Day on July 11, Vietnam Population Day on December 26... and include population indicators in the emulation and evaluation criteria of departments, branches and organizations.

The Commune Health Station coordinates to organize communication classes for all people and prestigious people in the community such as: Health care for the elderly, gender imbalance at birth, pre-marital health counseling, resolutions and directives of the province and district on population work in the new situation. Promoting their role, the team of collaborators in the commune actively participates in communication, advocacy, and counseling on reproductive health care/family planning.

Thanks to good implementation, the population programs and projects in the commune have achieved remarkable results. Particularly in 2024, the Commune Health Station organized communication on the prenatal and postnatal screening project for women on the occasion of International Women's Day March 8, Vietnamese Women's Day October 20, during the population - family planning campaigns; paying attention to prenatal check-ups 3 times during pregnancy to detect early intervention for abnormal fetuses and high-risk cases.

As a result, 54 pregnant mothers were counseled on prenatal screening, and 13 newborns had heel blood samples taken for testing. In addition, mothers were also counseled on additional services from socialized sources. The integrated communication campaign to provide reproductive health care/family planning services in the commune was well implemented.

The Commune Population Committee developed a plan to implement communication activities, assigned areas of responsibility to members of the population committee, and assigned specific targets to collaborators in charge of each area. The campaign results achieved and exceeded the district's target, attracting 168 medical examinations; 12 cases of premarital health examination consultation, and 26 cases of prenatal screening consultation.

Paying attention to improving the health and spirit of the elderly in the locality, the commune effectively maintains the club model "Elderly people helping the elderly" in Thuy Ba Ha village, and in 2024, launches the club "Elderly people helping the elderly" in Thuy Ba Tay village. Organize volleyball exchanges and health care performances for the clubs; organize communication conferences on health care for the elderly in the commune.

In addition, actively communicate to young people about the benefits of pre-marital health check-ups for young people. Thanks to good propaganda and mobilization work, the awareness of people in the commune is increasingly raised, actively participating in implementing activities, programs, and population projects, contributing to completing and exceeding the targets and plans on population - family planning in the locality. In 2024 alone, the commune will maintain the natural population growth rate at below 0.8%. Reduce the birth rate by 0.15‰. Reduce the rate of third or more children by 1.25%. The sex ratio at birth is 109 boys/100 girls. The rate of implementing contraceptive measures is over 90%.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu My, a population officer of Vinh Thuy commune, said: “To maintain good population work in the coming time, the health and population sector of the commune has proposed solutions such as: Strengthening propaganda and mobilizing people to implement population and family planning policies. Innovating forms and improving the quality of communication on all means such as: leaflets, billboards, and loudspeaker systems.

Closely coordinate with departments, branches and organizations to implement communication activities suitable for each target group to mobilize social forces to participate widely. Provide non-clinical contraceptives to the subjects in a timely manner. Advise and mobilize subjects to implement family planning at the Station.

Commune health stations regularly provide reproductive health services and family planning services for the target groups. Provide advice and guidance for pregnant mothers to have prenatal check-ups at the right time, ensuring that 100% of pregnant mothers receive advice on prenatal and newborn screening projects. Continue to implement the project "Socialization of contraceptive provision and family planning/reproductive health services in urban and rural areas".
