Mr. Ngo Van Truong's family has 400 Taiwanese apple trees. |
Following Mr. Tran Van Phuong, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nam Hoa Commune, we visited the economic model of Mr. Ngo Van Truong's family - the household with the largest area of fruit trees in the commune. On a scale of more than 3 hectares, he planted 800 grapefruit trees of various types, 300 Taiwanese guava trees, 400 Taiwanese apple trees and a number of other fruit trees.
While showing us around, Mr. Truong shared the process of building his comprehensive economic model. Accordingly, his family started growing fruit trees in 2010 with varieties such as oranges, apricots, etc. However, due to following the trend, they kept planting and cutting them down, leading to the income not being enough to cover the expenses. Not discouraged, he researched and visited many places and decided to choose the comprehensive fruit tree growing model to develop the family economy.
Mr. Truong shared: If before I only planted one type of tree, if the weather was unfavorable I could lose everything, but now with the integrated model, the trees will complement each other, reducing risks related to seasons or price fluctuations.
Mr. Ngo Van Truong planned the fruit garden of more than 3 hectares into separate areas (each area grows one type of tree). |
Thanks to the effectiveness of the model, he has expanded the area from the initial 1ha to more than 3ha, and invested in land preparation machines, pesticide sprayers and automatic irrigation systems. On average, each year, Mr. Truong's family supplies the market with about 50,000 grapefruits and over 15 tons of guava and apples. In addition to selling products to traders, he also directly delivers them to fruit shops in the province. After deducting expenses, the family's annual income reaches over 500 million VND.
Not only enriching himself, Mr. Truong also creates jobs for 4-5 seasonal workers in the area with an income of 300-350 thousand VND/day. Mr. Trieu Van Chien, My Lap hamlet, said: For nearly 5 years, I have been working seasonally for Mr. Truong's family with jobs such as weeding, fertilizing, pruning trees and harvesting fruit. There are months when I can work up to 20 working days. This job helps my family earn more income, significantly improving our daily life.

Realizing the effectiveness of Mr. Truong's family's economic model, many households have come to learn and he has enthusiastically shared his experiences. With the desire to develop together and improve the quality of fruit trees in the hamlet, in 2024, he mobilized households in the hamlet to establish the Na Tranh Fruit Tree Cooperative, consisting of 46 members, with a total area of over 30 hectares. As deputy head, he actively guides planting and care techniques, as well as supports finding outlets for the products. Along with that, he also actively propagates and mobilizes members to gradually convert traditional production to organic production to improve product quality.
Mr. Tran Van Phuong, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nam Hoa Commune, commented: The integrated fruit tree growing model of Mr. Ngo Van Truong's family is very suitable for the local soil and climate conditions, so we have organized for members to come and learn from the experience. Many members have successfully applied it and earned hundreds of millions of VND each year.
